Nintendo bringing new Wii controller to Japan

Nintendo bringing new Wii controller to Japan
According to a post on Nintendo's Japanese website, a new Wii controller is headed to Japanese gamers' hands, the Classic Controller Pro.

The new controller will be very similar to the Classic controller but will add two more shoulder buttons and handle grips reminiscent of DualShock pad.

There was no set release date for the controller, but it will include the same wireless functionality as the Wii Remote. Price was not disclosed yet either.

The Classic Controller Pro has 8 multi-purpose buttons, two analog pads, a digital D-Pad and a Select, Home and Start button.

So far this is only confirmed for Japan with no word on a North American or European launch.

It looks like the offspring of a GameCube controller and the "Classic" controller for the Wii.

It looks more like a DualShock controller to me. I mean, look at the buttons configuration. Exactly the same.

Yes, well done. You do know that all the Wii Attachments attach to the Wiimote? I can only assume that the wire there is the wire that attaches to the wiimote that is docked to the back of the controller.

Quote:The new controller will be very similar to the Classic controller but will add two more shoulder buttonsActually those buttons are on the Classic now, but are horribly placed to the inside of the shoulder triggers. Also looks like they fixed the spacing of the analog sticks as well, which are too close together on the Classic.

This would be ultra-cool, but it needs to be wireless sans connecting to the Wiimote like the current controller. If you could do everything motion-wise with it, with the exception of point-and-click type games, it would be great.

It looks more like an Xbox 360 controller to me! (White case with clear buttons anyone? Just for the sake of argument? LOL)

looks like nintendo realized their controllers suck for most games and had to make some normal ones.

I happen to like the design of the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo and for most games, some of the motion shortcuts work really well (like reloading in FPS.) Also, my larger hands don't have to ache after playing on a cramped controller... the DS is the biggest culprit for me, though it's built into the system.

is the purpose of this controller have anything to do with needing a more functional input device for the type of games that actually make money and that the average gamer will like to play?

Good, finally a real controller for my Wii that I don't play because the gimmicky nunchuck thing is a pain in the butt.
