NTIA promises to clear DTV Coupon backlog

In December we reported that Digital TV converter coupons were running out and many remained on waiting lists with no other recourse.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has announced today that any household on the waiting list should have their coupon in two and a half weeks.

"The backlog should be done 2.5 weeks from today," noted Bernadette McGuire-Rivera, an associate administrator at NTIA.



The recent economic stimulus package allotted an extra $650 million USD for the converter box program including $90 million USD for outreach and education.

As of a month ago, there were 1.8 million households still waiting for a coupon, said the FCC.

With the new money and new procedures, the NTIA should be able to send out 1 million coupons were week, added McGuire-Rivera.

  Hi,
  
  a simple math question, if each coupon is worth $40 USD and each household is alloted just 2 coupons, and 1.8 million households need coupons, then it would appear we need 2x 1.8 million x $40 USD.
  
  To me this equates to $144 million USD out of the $650 million less $90 million for outreach programs, leaving $416 million for overhead ?
  
  No wonder we in the US are going broke.

  Thanks for the attempt at getting us to purchace your inferior goods , but, uh... well... no.
  
  Anyway... this whole deal was pushed back in the first place because The united states of aMErIca refuses to accept that the world doesn't revolve around it. No wonder this country is in a bigger recession than the great depression. There was plenty of time to get this change underway.... but...no.. it doesn't fit with MY scedule so... I'LL hold up the rest of the country while it fits with MY schedule on how I think things should work.
  
  And it's only going to take Barack becoming the Antichrist to show this country that it was wrong. Que lastima.
