Sony Ericsson posts giant loss

Sony Ericsson posts giant loss
On Friday, Sony Ericsson posted a large loss of $382.4 million USD, adding that phone shipments fell 35 percent year-on-year, to 14.5 million units between January and March.

Additionally, the company will cut 2000 more jobs on top of the 2000 already cut in the past year.

Officials estimated that due to the global economic recession, the entire mobile phone market will shrink 10 percent in 2009, with just about 1.2 billion phones shipped for the year.

Perhaps more critical for the future of the company is the fact that they have lost 2 percent market share in the past year, dropping to 6 percent, and being surpassed by LG, Samsung and possibly Motorola. Notably, Sony Ericsson has lost giant amount of market share in the high-end market.

    Yea well most of their phones are overpriced and/or just suck. My friend has a W810i and I've tried it and I think I can say that I'll never buy a Ericsson phone because it takes a learning curve to use it :P

    Definitely not as simple as my Nokia 6275i which has the exact same specs and features and was $100 cheaper I think and it looks nicer too (the black one).

    Sony needs to realize there competition is dropping the price, while there product's remain for a premium fee.

    i could get a 40inch Samsung for $768, or i could get a Sony 40inch for $932.

    I don't know if that's the greatest example... Normally Sony LCDs have a better picture then the rest...

    They've gotten cheaper there too, before that $932 would have been like $1,232 from what I've noticed.

    @Morreale & DXR88
    Let's try and be a more selective with the quote function and not quote the stuff that breaks the rules.
    You'll need to edit the 'offending' link from your posts.
