Napster slashes prices

Napster slashes prices
Beginning tonight, the long running online music service Napster will drop the price of their cheapest monthly subscription from $13 USD to $5 USD, allowing users to stream unlimited amounts of music while receiving five DRM-free MP3 tracks every month.

The new price cut is only available to U.S. users however, so international users are out of luck for the time being.

Premium subscription plans will still cost $15 USD a month giving users the same access but with the ability to take content to all portable devices with the notable exception of iPods.

The plan is very similar to that of the Microsoft Zune Pass, which offers unlimited streaming and 10 DRM-free tracks for $15 USD.

Awesome, I made sure I logged in and changed my plan immediately, as it still had me down for the $12.95 plan.

In 1997 I streamed unlimited amounts of music from Napster for free. :)

Isn't this Napster not even related to the original Napster? I thought when they got shut down, some completely different company just bought their trademark and name.

Hell, if i didn't know any better, you would think that Micro$oft and Napster were the same company doing the same thing at the time. Coincidence, i think not!! It's a conspiracy i tell you . . . - BLUEBOY

Napster is still centered around Microsoft's "Plays For Sure" which is a broken DRM format, so $5 isn't so bad afterall! ;-)

Napster was sold to Roxio, which then sold it's E-Z CD Creator software division to Sonic Solutions the last time I heard about 3 years ago...

Thanks cousinkix for the link as I'd wondered what the new macaroni-er napster was about. $5 for 30 second clips and mostly mainstream music, not interesting. How about Emusic?
