'New' Circuit City to remain online-only for time being

Systemax, the new owner of the Circuit City brand name, has said the company will remain an online-only business for the time being, with the computer maker showing no signs of re-opening brick and mortar stores.

“It’s too soon to say whether Circuit City stores will appear,” adds Gilbert Fiorentino, chief executive of Systemax’s technology products group. “We’ve only owned it for two weeks, and we haven’t figured out what to do with it yet.”

Systemax currently has 29 CompUSA-branded brick-and-mortar stores. “We’re looking at additional real estate,” says Fiorentino however. “It’s an opportunity of a lifetime.”

The company acquired the name and branding for CompUSA and TigerDirect over the last year as the companies went bankrupt.

  Being an Ex employee of circuit city, i had noticed that there website was still open and operating but didn't know exactly who systemax was, now that i find out there the ones who bought tigerdirect and compUSA it kind of makes more sense...lets see what they can do.

  I probably wouldn't recommend the B&M stores. Circuit City is a damaged brand; I'm wondering if the purchase of the name will be offset by X amount of traffic purchasing more of the same product you could get from TigerDirect?

  Tigerdirect sucks....too many refurbished items and thier prices are way too high.

  I live in Florida so if I have to I use Global which is also the same company. But with Global U pay no sales tax, where as if I use Comp USA or Tiger they impose a sales tax. Its really strange as everything comes out of the same Warehouse
