YouTube to drop Internet Explorer 6 support
According to a screenshot posted on TechCrunch, YouTube looks to be on the verge of dropping Internet Explorer 6 support, forcing users who have not yet updated from the aging browser to update to IE8, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Chrome to keep watching their favorite videos.

Digg recently made a similar decision, noting that IE6 users account for 5 percent of all traffic but only 1 percent of comments and diggs.

As long as they still support IE7 I'm fine.

Surprised there aren't as many FireFox fanboys jumping on this.

Browser choice/preference is mostly irrelevant to me for my uses, and where Youtube is concerned it matters not at all. I watch very few Youtube videos and those that i want to keep i simply grab hold of using http://www.keepvid.com

Who really wants to use ie6 or 7 anymore? Most ppl using ie dont care what they are using no matter how unsecure it is. This is clearly googles way to advertise chrome to those users who just dont care until it doesn´t work. Still it would have been nice to see Opera instead of ie since ie8 cannot be downloaded to every windows..

Unless I get a decent amount of complaints my business website won't be IE6 compatible.

Also, yes that banner is real! I have IETester installed on my PC and here is the screenshot I took:

It looks like it might take a giant such as Google to help get rid of IE6. :P

That is true about IE6 and corporations not upgrading. However, if they are running a Windows domain, they could easily push out the updates for IE7 using SMS and/or group policy.

Any tech responsible for hundreds of computers and updates manually is a fool!
