Internet users will jump to 2.2 billion by 2013, says Forrester
According to a report from Forrester Research, worldwide Internet usership will jump to 2.2 billion users by 2013, with most of the gains coming from Asia.

The report adds that over 43 percent of the world's Internet users will be from Asia by that time, with a hefty 17 percent coming from China alone.

Growth in the US, most of Western Europe and other developed nations such as Japan and South Korea will slow to a crawl, as the market is almost at saturation already.

“While per capita online spending is likely to remain highest in North America, Western Europe and the developed markets of Asia throughout the next five years, the shifting online population and growing spending power among Asian consumers means that Asian markets will represent a far greater percentage of the total in 2013 than they do today,” writes Forrester Research Senior Analyst Zia Daniell Wigder.

“Multinational organizations must understand the dynamics of the shifting global online population to ensure that they are positioned to take advantage of emerging international opportunities.”

yes but how many will have fast(over 600KBPS) connections that are less than 50$ a month?

Without cheap and fast broadband you can;t really make the digital waters safe for media to dive head long into, and by safe I mean offering their products online.

Internet users will jump to 2.2 billion by 2013 higher than that at the rate people are having children.

by 2024 there will be no tree's no grass just houses as far as the eye can see. We will kill our selfs and it comes in the form of what some people call a gift.

I'll bet a large majority of them are in Africa, although I did hear of this "get africans online with a 99 dollar netbook" scam. So I suppose it depends on what your definition of 'being online' is. With a 56k modem, your technically "online"..but for how long till your isp boots you off for being idle?

They say "Users" but do they mean "Machines"?
I am one user, but I access the net on no less than 6 different devices. Am I one "user" or or 6 "users"?

Then, if they are counting the proliferation of web enabled phones and other devices then yeah, userbase is going up as web enabled phones become the norm. That doesn't mean that these are productive users or even that they pay the exorbinant charges to use that web access.
