PS3 stock running low in Japan, UK, says Pachter

PS3 stock running low in Japan, UK, says Pachter
According to video game market analyst Michael Pachter, PlayStation 3 stock is dwindling in the UK and Japan, implying a new model (Slim PS3) is in the works as well as possible price cuts.

Speaking to VG247, Pachter noted that retail channels in both regions are "drying up" with orders being held until the end of the month.

"The retail commentary I’ve seen has come out of the UK. We heard Japanese retail a few weeks ago say they weren’t going to be getting any more PS3s after August 8, and now we’re starting to hear UK retail say they cannot re-order PS3s until month-end,"
added Pachter. "And that suggests there will be a model change."

Pachter also said the upcoming Gamecom should bring big news from Sony, the PS3 Slim, as well as a price cut on the current models.

"If Sony’s practice is the same as it was in the past, and the Slim is more of a redesign of the components to drive down cost, then I think we will get a price cut."

Can't wait to see what this Slim version looks like, if it is real lol

It can't be that much smaller then what the PS3 is now could it?

Yes it could, the chips have gotten much smaller, and now generate less heat. This means smaller circuit boards and coolers. BluRay drives have also evolved a bit since the PS3 came out (BluRay burners now available in better laptops...when the PS3 came out, Blu-Ray READERS were all but unknown even in desktop systems).

Hopefully the Slim doesn't get a great feature that will never happen on the current PS3 because at least 20 million people will lose out on this 'new' feature.

The PSP Slim just took over the PSP just because the RAM was doubled.

Wow I assumed Sony would wait until someone could actually run homebrew before they brought out a new console to block it.

Ya everyone already has a 360 that wants one other than a few to upgrade to the elite and the few that have to replace their easy brake oven.
