Slim PS3 will have supply shortages, says Amazon

Slim PS3 will have supply shortages, says Amazon
Amazon has warned U.S. buyers that there will be supply shortages of the Slim PS3 when it launches September 1st.

In response, the e-tailer says they will be limiting sales to one console per household.

"As you may know, the PlayStation 3 120 GB is in great demand, and there are shortages of this product across the US," says Amazon.

"In an effort to provide as many customers as possible with the opportunity to purchase PlayStation 3 120 GB, we are limiting the total number of PlayStation 3 120 GB units that can be purchased. As a result, each household may only purchase one PlayStation 3 120 GB unit."

Amazon UK made a similar statement yesterday, however they are allowing up to 5 consoles per household.

"As you may know, the PlayStation 3 120 GB is in great demand, and there are shortages of this product across the US," says Amazon.

Actualy, the shortages are due to the fact that sony stopped shipping them a while ago in order to prepair for the slimline launch.

But hey, if they want to limit their own sales (and profits) it's their right to do it.

They just want to make people run and pre-order it IMO.

Um...they're not talking about shortages of ALL PS3s, just the new Slim model. Pre-orders of that are so active that they are worried they won't have enough to go around.

1 per household in the US and 5 per household in the UK.

0 per household in the UK .. at least in Lancashire that's the case.. bloody thing costs 3 months disposable income for most around here..
People have more important things to spend their money on.. like rent and power and just getting to work in a 40% inflation scenario.

HE??? .. shows the pickup level there.. IF you knew I did anything a lot you would know one thing I always do is come back and look at the fanboys who post after me... FYI .. 8 million people live in Lancashire.. WE invented the textile industry and the factory system.. and railways.. want more? (still looking for a positive yank invention.. oops.. can't find one so far)

Now.. the important thing here.. who gives a flying ---- what amazon say? .. they blew their credibility 2 weeks ago by deleting things people had paid for.. even in places where the items are already copyright exempt (expired) a$$hats.

Did I say it wouldn't sell to people who are given NO other choice of product? .. no.. so one point in the dust.. They don't sell here.. the ps3 is a flop because it's too expensive for what.. 6 exclusive games? .. and the reliability of the fat ones is showing to be hot air as well.. drives failing all over the place out of warranty..

Can’t have a Positive without a negative. Fanboy – Anti Fanboy (Girl). While you think that we are Fanboys to Sony, we think you are a Fanboy against Sony. We read the PS3 article because we see it as good news. You read it to try to make bad news out of it. Sony is Awesome. Maybe they will buy MS, then the 360 would have some good games. Just kidding 360 guys, Halo and Gears is very good.

Henry Ford is American and invented the modern production line in America. Something so widely used globally that they still utilize Ford's production line methods to make the PS3 Slim today.

Maybe it's just me, but I remember when they made the first Playstation tiny. Damn it was so tiny. Then with the PS2, when they made that one tiny. That one was so tiny and sexy too. Now this slim PS3, well it looks like that's it, like it's just slimmer, not really much smaller.

It seems like there's no real reason for anyone with an older PS3 to go out and get a new slim PS3. I remember with the PS2 they added an integrated cat5 port, something they should have just included when the console launched.

    22.8.2009 01:49 #22

  • H08

there was no need for the cat5 port on the ps2 during launch. people were still using dial up.

Someone better tell all those ppl pre ordering, that the hyped rumour that was not quickely denied by Sony, that PS2 compatibility is NOT going to be restored!

will effect sales or has the false rumour managed to bolster sales?

Quote:It’s official: Sony has confirmed that backwards compatibility definitely isn’t returning to the PlayStation 3.

During a recent interview, John Koller, Sony’s Director of hardware marketing, said: “It’s not coming back.”

The PS3 did feature support for PS2 games when it launched back in 2006. North American and Japanese models achieved this using embedded hardware, while European machines got the same result through software emulation.

But – for reasons which still aren’t 100 per cent clear – Sony subsequently removed backwards compatibility from later PS3 models.

Koller’s statement backtracks slightly on commens made by Eric Lempell, Sony’s PlayStation network director, back in 2008. Lempell hinted that backwards compatibility may return.

Why the change of heart? The option just isn’t as big a “purchase intent driver” as you would think, he told Ars Technica.

The Sony exec is confident that because the console has a “substantial” line-up of gaming titles and Blu-ray support, no one wants to play old PS2 games. ®

    http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/08/21/ps3_back_compat_dead/
why would you want to play them old PS2 titles when you can purchase them all over again via the PSN store, as they are a whole new experience via PSN!

isn't the Wii selling a huge back-catalogue via its on-line store & making huge profits of them old games?

he goes on to tell ars that
