PS3 price cut will lead to 'huge growth,' says Sony
In an interview this week, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Andrew House has said the company expects a "a huge amount of growth for the [console] business" following the recent PS3 price cut and the release of the Slim PS3.

"I think what I've heard anecdotally is that this is the point people were waiting for - a redesigned model and, in Euros, a significant price reduction," House says, via GI.biz. "That's people's cue to jump into the business."

"I think as well that the pleasing thing when I look at the European landscape is that this is coming on what was already pretty robust sales, year-on-year. Even at the higher price point our PS3 numbers have been bang on track through this year, against a challenging economic environment."

"So I think we feel this can only mean a huge amount of growth for the business, particularly in the next three months. It's an exciting time, and it's great for us to be able to continue to deliver on the Sony promise - evolving, changing and hopefully delivering a better value proposition to the consumer,"
he concluded.

I like the slim since it uses 34% less power thus cutting down electricity cost without cutting into gaming time.

I've been reading your "complaints" on these PS3 discussion boards for quite some time now and according to your logic you won't be happy until the damm thing is free. You expect everything to be sold for yesterdays prices. Not gonna happen no matter how much you wish for it or bitch about it.

Apparantly following price-cuts etc a jump of 40% - 60% is what has happened before and is quite normal.

On principle, I won't spend more than $150 on a console. (This was actually a realistic principle to have until "today" came in to effect and "yesterday" went out the window.) And since they've officially declared that they don't care about PS2 backward-compatibility, and there aren't any PS3 games that I'm remotely interested in, I think I'll be passing on this system. But that's just me.

Up yours nexgen.. we know who pays your wages.. IP shown to me comes up as $ony domain in my blocklists... hahahaha

Don't expect your paid employee moderator to save you.. not every time.

comment stands.. I'm working for less now than I was 10 years ago.. everything else has seen 40% inflation this year.

AND.. who gives a flying toss what "Fony says" .. because we know they are full of shite trying to hype up their failed console.

Every time we see one of these "fony says" or "M$ says" all the twat fanboys descend and start with the personal rubbish.. can't we just have a nice discussion.. In fact I'm just going to write to the director of content and see if we can't just have an end to these pointless stupid news items all together. They are not news and have no relevance to anything at all ever... Just some crap out of a press office.. NOT REAL

varnul, you are the one that eggs on these people with your constant complaining against nearly most things in the news on aD.

i dont know if you are joking but please give proof of your accusation against nexgen :)

PS if you are getting less wages than 10 years ago you need to either drop that work, or give them a reason to increace ur wages!

@ Varnull ~ No more games. You have had more than enough warnings and temp banning's. You don't learn and I am not playing games anymore. You get 1 month for that. The next one is a permanent.

This goes out to EVERYONE who insults other Afterdawn members or implies I am somehow a paid Sony employee. I have previously provided proof I am not, never, or will be.

    Period. That's it.

Finally you say what's on everyones mind! Somebody needs a hug haha

Don't complain about everything the big companies do! If you really wanted to do something about it, chuck out half the consoles in your house and go on a hunger strike. . . .Then we'll see how many people actually care.

I think you are doing a good job all things considered, your posting tends to be to the point no matter how rambling and vague the others can be(raises hand, sticks it in mouth and wanders off drooling all the while).

While varnull's first comment may not have been to everyone's liking, it was only an opinion on the topic and NexGen76 took the first stab at another member. It is fine to disagree over something, but making it personal in anyway is completely uncalled for and rather then go in that direction it is better to keep the comments to yourself and ignore the "offending" post. Not doing so only has the potential of creating incidents like this.
varnull's counter (attack) had a lot more hostility in it and a few accusations, yet it was still a response. Only banning varnull certaintly doesn't help disprove them either. NexGen76 shares equal responsibility in this, if not more, for taking a poke at varnull when they could have left well enough alone.

On the original topic of this thread, I know several people who feel that the price cut makes the PS3 worth buying so maybe it will increase profits/growth. Personally I don't feel that a PS3 without backwards compatibility is worth buying. The PS2 games I want to play far out weigh the sole PS3 game I have a slight interest in, although heavy rain is looking pretty good. One difference between me and everyone I know that's getting or wants to get a PS3 slim is that they all have PS2's. As soon as sony quits trying to sell their antiquated PS2 console for 100$ and reintegrates it into the PS3 the better off they'll be imo. I think that attempting to squeeze a bit more money out of the PS2 is holding the PS3 back. If they had a PS3 with backwards compatibility for 400$ or less I would buy one tomorrow, but as it is I'll just hold my money and wait for them to release a product that (I feel) is worth buying.

If they would release some good games, then it would take off. From a technical standpoint, the PS3 is far more advanced than the Xbox360...but that does not matter when the last two grand theft auto releases were on xbox360, and GT5 is over a year behind schedule.

Red Maw, you will be glad to know that you can get a Refurb 60gig and 80gig from Gamestop with BC for under $400. Look forward to seeing you on PSN. Also, I will trade you my working 60gig for a unboxed Slim. I never play PS2 games on it.

Killerbug, MS just bought the rights for the DL on GTA, not the whole game. I may be wrong, but i think Sony has done the same thing for the next game.

H08, I have finger prints on my screen now.

OK that's it. Since we have legitimate readers who like to read the news and DON'T act like 12 year olds, we won't cease writing these little blurbs on games industry. But as a temporary measure until the coders make it possible to ban users from posting news comments (but not posting on forum), and until we send out a round of abuse complaints to a number of Internet Service Providers, all new games/console items will have comments closed to users as standard - this thread is now closed.

If you post on the forums, fair enough, if you step over the line on ANY rule then you will be banned by Mods, you already know this. But comments are on the English main site, this is our domain and we're sick of this crap now. Again sorry for the inconvenience caused to our majority of users.
