Google letter to FCC points finger for app rejection at Apple

Google letter to FCC points finger for app rejection at Apple
Google has released the full text of their letter to the FCC regarding Apple's App Store rejection policies. It directly contradicts a claim Apple made last month that the Google Voice app wasn't rejected, but is in fact still being considered.

According to the letter Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller personally informed Google's Alan Eustace on April 10 that the Google Voice app had been rejected.

The FCC's investigation originally seemed to be focused on AT&T's role in rejecting apps. Had they been behind the decision it would clearly have been within the scope of FCC authority.

Having determined that it was solely Apple's decision to reject the Google Voice app, it's not even clear that the agency has any jurisdiction over the matter.

What may be more interesting is what, if any, affect the facts uncovered might have on the DMCA rulemaking process by the Library of Congress. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is asking for an anti-circumvention exemption on jailbreaking mobile phones.

One of EFF's primary arguments is the anti-competitive nature of the App Store rejection process. The Google Voice decision would seem to underscore that point.

You can read the full text of the Google letter on the FCC website.

Hardly a day goes by without a news story about Apple's deplorable business practices...now they are lying to the FCC...and the result is that they will get away with it. You would think that they would at least be nice to big names like Google and NIN, but it appears that Apple cares about no one, not even the big companies.

If I were google, I would disable the iphone / safari browser from google network. This includes google search, maps, youtube. That would really screw apple. Apple has been dicking everyone over. I think Steve Jobs shouldn't have gotten that liver, wait your turn buddy. And... Apple makes iphone developers buy a mac with osx. And... When an iphone owner reports their phone stolen, they will still sell aps to the theif. Shame on you Apple!!!

I mainly wonder why KillerBug is always the first to hop onto (start?) the anti-Apple bandwagon anytime any Apple-related story pops up on this site.

If you're inherently ANTI-something, you're to be simply ignored, as any utterly sad lack of a level-headed source of info should (as many assumptions, distortions and lies you may have to 'support' you).

Look through the news articles, I am often the first one to comment on a news article, apple related or not. I have posted many anti-microsoft, anti-firefox, anti-linux, anti-etc posts, as just about everyone is doing something wrong. I am starting to become anti-apple, but this is because of the torrent of anti-apple news that we all see.
