EB Games will not stock PSP Go either, in Australia

On September 16th, the Dutch-based retailer Nedgame announced that they would not stock the PSP Go, claiming that the handheld was overpriced and forced a monopoly on game sales, killing the used games market.

Today, it appears that the large retailer EB Games will not stock the PSP Go either, however, only in Australia.



EB Games does not mention the handheld at all on its site, and Kotaku reports that calling Sydney-based stores confirms the fact.

Sony Australia added: "In relation to our business and the launch of PSPgo, we are already experiencing solid support for launch day on October 1 in Australia. Retail support of the PSP platform, includes both PSP-3000 and PSPgo. Many retailers will choose to range both PSP models side-by-side, as we continue to offer expanded choice for the consumer for the handheld device platform. As with any new product, there will be continued discussions with retail partners to continue to expand reach over time in line with growth of the entire PSP platform."

Appears EB and Nedgames do not agree.

  I think retailers are getting a bit smarter about not being a dumping ground for crappy products...

  this is nothing that i didnt expect from sony, they are starting with the handheld and will try to implement it on every device soon enough.
  
  we have see disgraceful licensing before, mostly via micro payment games before but never (other than sony's ps3 warhawk) on a full price new title.

  If this is what Sony is going to do... Require you to use their service to install their programs... then they need to go to a Cell phone business model. In otherwords, you pay a much smaller price for the unit because they subsidize it and then they make their profit back on your service charges.
  
  What they are doing now, basically over-charging you for a device, then requiring you to use their service, is just highway robbery and I hope they lose their asses on this deal.

  Simple, just boycott ALL Sony products. No sales, no demand, and then watch them change their mind. May take a while, but consumers vote with their money, rip off techniques will not be tolerated.

  Here's a great scenario for you, if you happen to be Sony's wallet: charge $250 for a handheld console without a physical game media option, and then charge on average $5 more for downloaded titles than they go for at retail, since you have zero competition in the download space. That seems to be SCEA's definition of "price parity" right now for the PSP, though in Japan downloadable titles have been on average slightly cheaper than their physical counterparts. Sure, it's rough on retailers if they have to compete with a lower-than-MSRP price coming straight Sony, but the likes of Amazon are already at below MSRP on plenty of titles, and we're not so sure consumers are going to take kindly to paying more for less (in the physical sense, anyway) after they already splurged hard on the PSP Go... not that they'll have much choice in the matter,

  What’s your point? Is it that Amazon already undercuts retailers? Is it that games could cost $5 more or $15 less? You do have a choice to buy the 3000 that uses the UMD. Since you are a xbox Loyalist and I am not, let us know; can you resale those download games, map packs, expansion packs, etc that you buy on Live? Can you buy them somewhere else other than from MS? Just curious since this seams to bother you SO much.
