Nintendo offers Wii Sports Resort bundle with two MotionPlus accessories

Nintendo has revealed a new Wii Sports Resort bundle that includes two MotionPlus accessories instead of the previous one. The extra controller will add $10 to the price tag, which would be a saving of $10 over buying an additional MotionPlus accessory after getting the original bundle.

"Shoppers are looking for value as we head into the holiday season, and this Wii Sports Resort bundle is a gift that players of all ages and experience levels can enjoy," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Best of all, it instantly gets multiple members of the household engaged in playing as soon as the package is opened."



The new bundle will sell for $59.99. The MotionPlus accessory alone sells for $19.99. Nintendo's Wii console has easily led the generation (of home consoles) in terms of unit sales, but lately has seen a price drop in response to the new PS3 Slim and Xbox 360 price cuts. Additionally, motion control technology for both is on the horizon, leading to some speculation of a new Nintendo console in a couple of years.

Just under 3 million MotionPlus accessories have been sold since its launch. Wii Sports Resort has been a very successful title too, selling over 1.25 million units in the United Stales alone since launch.

  So... It's not selling well enough? No surprise, considering that there aren't a whole lot of games that will use it yet. If Nintendo wants more people to bite, they need to encourage the software companies to use it.
  
  In the past, companies have offered licensing\ royalty breaks to lower costs for development early on. It gets development teams more comfortable with the added hardware, they usually come up with other ideas inadvertently, and customers begin to expect more games to use the hardware\perepheral. This means that the companies are now likely to continue using the new gadget\addon, and the console's manufacturer (Nintendo\Sony\M$\whoever in specific cases) can better say "Look at this awesome thing you can do with our system! Look at how many games are that much cooler with it!"
  
  This is how the rumble pack for the N64 took off, this is how the gameboy color got it's software library, and this is likely what M$ and Sony will be doing with their new motion devices as well.
  
  If the big N wants this new addon to become prominent (Which in turn would reduce complaints about accuracy, or the lack thereof), they would be wise to offer incentives to software companies for utilizing the new motionplus system. It'll help Nintendo sell more bundles, and it'll boost the overall 'perceived system morale' to keep people interested.
