Guinness Book of Records lists largest HD screen
The Guinness Book of Records files some of the most interesting and utterly useless records for our entertainment, constantly looking for more weird entries to fill the books each year. A new entry into the Guinness book of records is the awesome High-definition (HD) video screen(s) present above the Dallas Cowboys' football stadium in the United states.

Manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric, the giant four-sided screen has a surface area of about 1058 sq m (11,400 sq ft). "This is probably the most exciting project we've ever been involved with," said Mark Foster of Mitsubishi Electric.

Mitsubishi said the video board is the equivalent size of 3,268 52-inch television sets, packs more than 10 million light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and with all four panels account for, weighs around 600 tonnes.

You know what, if you go into a shop to buy a HD tv for say 500-1000 euros then the sales person says "would you like a bracket to hold the tv up" you know a wall bracket or something to stand it up on your table or something. You say yes to the salesman and he/she adds about 50-100 euros to the price!!!!! Wonder how much it cost to hang this massive screen up.
It would be like going to buy a car and the salesman says would you like tyres on your car?

The question you should be asking Joe777, is where in God's name would you find a wall big enough to hang it on in a home in the first place? Even Bill Gates would have to knock a few floors out of his mansion to hang this sucker! The square footage of just one of these screens is 10 times the size of a theater screen. And let us not forget the electric it would take to run this...or the 3rd degree burns you would get from the light coming off of it...lol

    That sucker is huge!
However, it seems that they should have spent a few more dollars on it, by paying the engineers for a few more minutes spent on planning(some kickers keep hitting the gigantic screen):

I heard on the radio that moving and repositioning the screen would cost a few million dollars. (They didn't explain the justification for the price, much like most media outlets).

A few million to move it!!! you mean the support doesnt have a remote control:P
    Thats crazy money eh!
And as for how to hang it up in the first place I think they got 10 airships with mooring lines holding up the 600 tons or maybe houdini has turned his hand to construction.Lol
Anyway I'm gonna order one for my back garden use it when folks come round for a BBQ:D Donations are welcome:D But I will have a remote control with mine to move it around in case anyone gets rowdy and starts throwing beer bottles at it.

Question is: Could we hook up either cable or satellite to that monster and have a huge ass tailgate party! And how big would the remote be? lol

Speaking of tailgating, you actually can, sort of. If you go into the games early, they are showing the broadcast of other games that are in progress at the time. I think that's very cool. They really built this new stadium for the fans. I think it's awesome that the players come out of the locker rooms and actually walk right by the fans on the way down to the field. Although I've heard the opposing teams don't like it very much, and the Cowboys are going to have to put up a plexiglass window so the players can't be "touched". I'm guessing there were some harsh words (and probably a few beers) thrown at the opposing players.

The four panels weigh 600,000 lbs. With all the support structure, the entire unit weights around 1,200,000!!!!

As I said, name me what wall in your home that can hold that kind of weight without some massive and expensive remodeling!

    My gods.
I guess in Texas you don't have any energy conservation problems like the rest of the world.
The electricity that thing would take to turn on would probably power a developing nation for a year.
    It makes me sick.

Very cool but what an F'ing waste.

That money could have been used to feed a small country.

Now Al Qaeda can see their target from space if the top of the stadium opens (not quite sure IF it actually does open)

How is this going to effect our environmental carbon foot print.
All great and all but we really need to stop consuming so much myself included.

Retarded, you go to a game to watch the action on the field.
The Fan Cost Index -- what it takes to bring a family of four to a game -- is $759 in Dallas, by far the highest in the league. The FCI comprises the prices of four average-price “general” tickets, two small draft beers, four small soft drinks, four regular-size hot dogs, parking for one car, two game programs and two least-expensive, adult-size adjustable caps.

A big storm or tornado will probably knock it down anyway.

Be careful there Aircraft0, if they pass that hate speech bill into law (the Gub'ment) they will lower the boom on anyone that uses a mental illness as an insult. I found out about this in another site (CSpan.com) and if this passes we may end up like that province in Canada where the Pastor was brought before a Civil Rights Committee and charged with a hate speech crime, that he was found innocent is not the point...the point is that they actually charged him. Lets hope you are not in the US so you dont or wont fall under this idiotic bill or possibly soon to be law. Guess our politicians here just are not busy enough sticking their nose into every section of a citizens private life, now they want to make laws deciding what you can and cannot say. The only good thing about this is that it will kill rap music as they wont be able to use the "n" word nor call women "Ho's" anymore....lol
