Sony adds PSP copy to Blu-ray discs

Sony adds PSP copy to Blu-ray discs
Sony America has announced that beginning with the upcoming Blu-rays "Godzilla" and "The Ugly Truth," a new feature will allow PSP owners to directly transfer digital copies right from their PS3 instead of from their computers from a separate DVD disc.

“Blu-ray is already known as the best way to watch movies at home, and now SPHE & SCEA are also making it the most convenient way to watch movies on the go,” Sony VP of new business development Rich Marty added, via VB.

Added director of hardware marketing John Koller: The new feature will allow “users to easily take the best in movie and entertainment content on-the-go—all of which is only possible on the PSP and PS3 platforms.”

I guess Sony is trying to get some money back from the failed UMD Movie format they created. They should of done this years ago with DVDs. As previously stated, why would Sony think I want to pay twice or even three times the amount for the same movie I might either already own or might only watch once to begin with?

Actually they blew it when they charged full DVD prices of $20 to $15 for a UMD movie that offers nothing more than a movie. UMD movies should have never been more than $5 to $6 bucks tops to begin with.

I think this is a great feature for consumers like myself. I use my PS3 as my main blu-ray player and being able to directly transfer my digital copy to my PSP from there is very convenient.

I agree that it would have been nice to ahve this feature a bit earlier though, but I guess better late than never.

I love how they work to keep you from backing up your movies by repeatedly re-inventing the DRM (not that it stops you anyway)...yet they offer these "digital copy" things for other devices on certain movies. If they realy wanted to do it right, they would have a built-in "digital copy" feature as part of the PS3 firmware. This is just to try to grab a few iddiotic customers that are dumb enough to think that this will be on more than a handfull of movies.
