U.S. PSP sales jump 300 percent following PSPgo launch
Sony America corporate communications director Patrick Seybold has said today that overall PSP sales have jumped 300 percent in the United States since the release of the UMD-less PSPgo last week.

Not surprisingly, given the hardware numbers, game downloads via the PlayStation Store also spiked, about 200 percent.

"The launch of PSPgo has generated strong consumer interest in the overall PSP platform and the PlayStation Network's digital content offering," said Seybold.

"With several blockbuster games launching digitally and on UMD in the coming weeks - from LittleBigPlanet to Assassin's Creed Bloodlines - we expect this momentum to continue and look forward to a strong holiday season for both the PSPgo and PSP-3000."

On October 5th, Sony Europe announced sales were up about 120 percent, despite poor critical reception of the device.

The PSPgo is a sign of the future tho its imperfect we need to be allowed to trade games tie them to our accounts and let use trade keys for a service free of 1-5$. IE we wont own the game but we will own the right to play it via a key that's tied to our account that can be transferred to another account for a fee.

i can sell all my things under the value of £500 in the local papers for free, or via a small percentage via ebay, it should be exactly the same with sony psp go games.

Bah the fee grease's the gears of change, better to have it than static unchangeable download that is meant to be tossed away, because its that or some form of renting.
Also if there is a 5$ fee they can keep retail prices lower. It all evens out you have to think out the possibilities and build a system that even they can not ignore or dismiss.

i choose neither & will endeavour to educate ppl to believe that if you hand over your cash for a product its yours & you should be entitles to do whatever you want with it. the "pay to give away" is very much on the slippery slope of Orwellian control over something we paid for.

licensing is a disgrace to customers which is why sony has adopted it into the main stream market.

One dollar is the new free.

In two years, three dollars will be the new one dollar...

Oh please there is nothing inherently wrong with paying 5-15% of its retail price(30$ max) to transfer a game to someone else.

I myself would never purchase a download only gaming device. I know there are plenty of loyal sony followers who would be willing to do so and not actually "own" any of the content they purchased. If enough people decide not to purchase into this business model of download only, maybe Sony and other companies can be sent a message.
Its really just another way to fleece the consumer.

Steam and D2D are doing pretty good you know...

Yes they are doing well. Do you know if you can move your downloads to another PSP free of charge? I know you can move your steam account to another computer without fees. The steam games are not tied to a particular computer. Even so, I still like having a physical copy. Just my preference and opinion.

Last I checked steam dose not like games being transferred between accounts.

Yes sony is doing things hamhandedly what do you expect from a anti consumer DRM king, but what I am always looking for is a better middle ground if games max out at 30$ a free to sell it to someone else(or a secondary activation fee for the "key") is nothing to complain about.

Of coarse we wont see that any time soon so instead of rallying agisnt it I bitch and whine and maon about what it should do.

I almost bought a PSP this week...but it had nothing to do with the GO model (If I do buy one, it will be a fat or a 3000). Gran Turismo PSP came out this week!

If the go is stimulating PSP sales, it is mostly the old units to people who fear they will not be available for long.

Realy, it is just the fact that they finaly released a couple of good games...that's the best way to sell a system.

steam & direct are not exactly mainstream nor on any console.

Games will never be maxed out at a $30 price tag no matter what medium because there is no industry standard in place for pricing of such matters. Nor is there for movies, music and any other entertainment that requires any medium. You can look for a middle ground all you want, but Sony and other companies like em don't really give a rats ass what the consumers want, because they hire people in their companies to tell consumers what they want.

Zippy, is it a nice idea; yes it is. Will it ever happen that way, no way. Because corporations are in it to win it, and you can't win it if a new game is priced at $30, at least in the eyes of sales. Basically what Sony is doing is a gamble; rather than lowering the costs of their media they have out now, they want to save on the back end dollar and still charge near if not the same amount cause it's still a quality product without the packaging. We as consumers will never have say over value, cause nobody not even the gov't cares. And why? Cause everyone knows if consumers really want or need something, they'll buy it anyways.

In the eyes of Sony even lending a game to a friend is infringing on its copyright. If all we have is the right to play the game then im only gonna pay like 1-5$ for it. This brings something into the light, how are people going to buy games to give away as birthday or holiday gifts?

I think there are a lot of consumers who don't read the "fine print" so to speak, and its going to cause some problems for Sony. Just a guess.
