'Transformers 2' sells over 1.2 million Blu-ray discs in first week
Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is the best selling Blu-ray disc of 2009, and likely of all-time, after moving 1.2 million discs in its first week of release.

The blockbuster sold 6.3 million DVDs as well, placing it within days of surpassing Twilight as the best selling DVD of the year.

The figures are for North America only. The previous best selling Blu-ray was Fox's Wolverine: Origins which is at about 900,000 BD sold so far.

Revenge of the Fallen debuted on October 20th and Paramount says about 500,000 BD were sold on opening day, a record.

Yikes...Sure doesn't take much for the masses to be entertained these days. And I'll just leave it at that.

I wonder how many of those were bought by electronics stores to show off their purdy HD sets...

So much negativity... Did you guys not enjoy this movie?

cougar128, even if 5,000 copies (even that I think is too high) were bought by stores to use as a demo that still leaves 1,195,000 discs bought by the easy to entertain masses (as was named above).

Personally, I will be getting this movie on BD to use as a demo and to enjoy it at home. I need to wait a little longer though as I am in Australia.

Not bad for a film that was first released in 1956...

...and I don't friggin' care if it sells only one copy - as long as that copy is MINE.

Everybody's a critic and your average critic is about as smart as a bag of hammers. I thought the movie was great but the story had too many holes you could drive a truck through sideways.

I thought the movie was awful. Great special effects...but the story line and plot was vomit inducing.

Well I bought at BD copy myself, still sitting in the packaging because I haven't had the time to watch it, but it was a no-brained for $20, since I would've easily spent that much in the theaters, plus it came with a digital copy and some other goodies that I'll probably never use, but they're incentives nonetheless.

    P.S. I do NOT own a PS3 either.

I think these records of blu-ray movies being sold are going to be broken quickly.

I do believe there is a bigger topic at hand then whether the movie was good or not.
How about the fact that despit the attempts of the MPAA through the Mass media, people will still go out and spend their hard earned dollars on entertainment.
Personally I liked the movie though. Story Line aaahhhhh not so much, but thats not really why you go to see a Michael Bay film.
Lets look at the track record, Movies about cops chasing a drug dealer, blowing up an asteriod. No we go for the special effects.
Kinda like lookin at porn, it aint for the story line

LOL @ the porn reference! Right on!

Finally watched it with a WTF all the way through. I think they could've attached a camera to a roller coaster and threw random car parts at it and got the same results!
