Japanese man marries virtual video game character

Japanese man marries virtual video game character
In the latest "WTF"-type news, BoingBoing is reporting that a Japanese man, who goes by the name Sal9000, has married his virtual video game character Nene Anegasaki, from the DS game "Love Plus."

The wedding took place at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and had a real priest, real audience, and a slideshow of the happy couple's favorite memories.

The event was posted on Japan's Nico Nico Douga, a strange but popular video sharing site.

Below is BB's video report on the wedding, and we wish the bride and groom a happy life together.

And a picture of Sal9000 at the beach with his wife:

I think society has reached an all-time low...or people really are crazy these days lol! To each their own,but this is kinda bizarre. What happens if he loses his DS? Does he fill a missing persons report? As much as I think Rayne is hot I'm not going to marry her...besides I'm not gonna get any anyways

Wow, he's a young guy, too...

The concept of marrying a character is, in and of itself, bizarre, but what I find interesting is that he married her in an original red DS "Phat". You'd think he'd have gotten her a better dress for the ceremony.

Wow, I don't get why this would even take place. I wonder what happened with any real women he's associated with, I can only imagine he's either mentally sick or has been shot down many times to stoop to marrying a virtual woman.

What happens if (when) his copy of Love Plus dies? I can't imagine that an insurance company would let someone take out a policy to cover a virtual "wife". Would the guy buy a casket for the cartridge and bury it in the ground with a head stone or cremate the cartridge and keep it's ashes in an urn?

I'm not sure how you qualify someone marrying a bunch of 1's and 0's as being better than gay marriage. At least with gay marriage it involves a real life person but I digress as this devolves into politics and religion which is against board rules. Just confounds me at some peoples reasoning skills

what im wondering is how she managed to sign the marriage certificate???????if they get divorced does she still get half of what he owns????if someone creates virtual parents for her do they get a say in what happens in her life?????this is really rediculous.

Fk'd up, that's what it is, but it does have a bright side:
if dopey over there stays faithful, at least will not reproduce, and will not burden the world with the existence of another abject moron...of course, assuming he isn't part of the clientèle of some sperm bank...

I am just baffled by this... I mean, marriage usually means you have to consummate :

    –verb (used with object)
    1. to bring to a state of perfection; fulfill.
    2. to complete (an arrangement, agreement, or the like) by a pledge or the signing of a contract: The company consummated its deal to buy a smaller firm.
    3. to complete (the union of a marriage) by the first marital sexual intercourse

Well he has the first 2 down, but the last... 2 out of 3 ain't bad, but that poor DS screen..... Monkey tossing over it, would that even count? Or does he try to insert in the head jack... Surely this will be the blunt of jokes for many weeks.

Totally agree w/you man, I would want to defend myself and trust no one. Did anyone find if he suffers from any "mental distress" of some sort? If so, that would explain it. Don't get me wrong, I know that people in Japan do some strange and bizarre things, but damn a virtual character? That's like me marrying the beach babes on DOA volleyball. Not going to happen, ever . . . - BLUEBOY

Maybe you missed the drum beat... ??? as in ... the punchline of a joke...

It just confounds me how some people can be so serious on a website...

But, I must go now. I've got to get back to my sim family. My wife is expecting and our teenage daughter is considering changing from "friend" to "romantic" with Joe Bob from down the sim street and I've got to put the fear of God into him.

Unfortunately, his parents were unable to attend due to embarasement...

Priest: "Do you take this video game to love, hold, and care for, so long as her battery lasts?"

    Psychotic nerd: "I do"

This must be a very expensive game...as soon as the next version comes out, he will have to divorce her and give nintendo half his stuff.
