Private tracker SceneTorrents closes down
In a move that should send waves through the torrent community, the under-the-radar private torrent tracker SceneTorrents has officially closed, after over four years of being open.

The NFO of the site's final torrent reads as follows:

"By now most of you already know that ScT will be going offline permanently.

However, due to pending legal issues, we are not at liberty to speak freely about why we’ve chosen to take down the site. Members of our staff were arrested and will be undergoing the entire length of the judicial process. Obviously, in the case of criminal proceedings, it would be downright foolish to comment any further on the situation;

Please bear this in mind and wish them the best of luck.

There have been several theories as to where the donation money (of the recent months) has gone. We’d like to take this opportunity to put all skepticism to rest.

The money was used to purchase new hardware that would ensure our spot as the fastest tracker on the net.

You are free to perform whatever calculations you feel necessary, but in doing so it should become very clear that running a site of this stature costs money. We feel the overwhelming cynicism is just a product of bad timing compounded with general frustration caused by the current situation.

We sincerely hope that you’ve enjoyed being a part of our wonderful community over the past 4 1/2 years. We’ve certainly enjoyed our members letting us be of service. We’ve always felt our user base played an equally important role in making SceneTorrents.org a model environment in the torrent world.

The staff would also like to express their gratitude to fellow trackers for their support in such a chaotic time. Several well known communities have voluntarily opened their doors, and have offered our former users a new home. We appreciate the courtesy and acknowledge the steps being taken to move forward collectively as a community. Your assistance does not go unrecognized.

//ScT Staff"

SceneTorrents was known as one of the faster trackers on the planet and one of the hardest to get into and stay a part of.

    For every one that falls, 10 more rise. And I know because some of the trackers I'm on are fully welcoming in former ST members.

    Isohunt is still around and seems to be relatively impervious to the legal system..................though I could be wrong..........for some reason I beleive they're in the middle east somewhere like Iran.

    Isohunt has always been my first choice and Mininova.org second so I highly recommend as there is very little I have NOT found on it.

    w00t at TorrentLeech is kind enough to offer free invites to former SCT members. Visit the TL IRC chan for more info.

    RIP SceneTorrents, you fought "the man" hard, but in the end "the man" always wins. Many of your Fans will mourn your untimely passing, but they will have many warm memories of your greatness.
    On the bright side as you leave the scene, one of your competitors will take over where you left off, and hopefully make a name for themselves. That is the way of the internet.
    We thank Roseanne (aka the fat lady) for singing the final song in honor of your passing.

    The tracker takedown's are in full swing judging by the last couple of months or so. Wonder what will happen when all the major ones get taken down. Will the majority of people still be saying the usual bullshit line of 'for every 1 taken down, 10 pop up'?

    Very fast, very exclusive. The second fastest private tracker I've ever been on. Kinda place where you can max out your connection (downloading) on 7 seeds.

    manrod and tatsh, you are both right. A start up pulls less than 1% of the big three that are now down. So the big 3 has cost the cause 50-75 %. Two of the 3 have some trackers still up and running. No, the battle is being lost, by this time next year there will not be much going on. Not only will all the old timers be off the market but anti-P2P laws will be in place in most of the bigger offending contries. They have also developed all sorts of robot apps to raid clients. The latest I have heard is they alter a few blocks so if your client is fooled you wind up with tainted goods. That is the best one yet. Being a programmer I appreciate the moves 'the enemy' has made.

    The industry has pumped as much as they can into the effort and it has paid off. Only a fool would assume that it would last forever. There will always be something so the cyber police will need to reinvent themselves. I suspect there may be a time where the funding will dry up.

    Hopefully you have been DLing enough to keep you happy for the rest of your life. There will be other ways but I will not be going there. I am sitting pretty fat, socking it away for years.

A shame the industry is to bust hording monopolies than trying to sell stuff to the masses....

    well yeah, and to be honest, was it not for piracy i wouldnt have found my fave artists, and those artists belive that if the only way to listen to their music is to bootleg it, then do it.
