Verizon preparing to add iPhone, Palm Pre?

Verizon preparing to add iPhone, Palm Pre?
According to new reports, Verizon is upgrading their network in preparation for the iPhone in 2010 as well as the Palm Pre.

PhoneArena is reporting that there is a Palm Pre Plus listed in Verizon's internal inventory system, and that it will be available in very early 2010, after Sprint's exclusivity agreement ends.

It is not clear what the "Pre Plus" brings that warrants the "plus," but it is unlikely that the device will be much different than the current Pre.

Additionally, Verizon is "tweaking" their network so it can withstand the high data usage of iPhone users. AT&T users have criticized the carrier unmercifully over dropped calls and slow receiving of emails and text messages through their iPhones. AT&T also has an inferior 3G map, and speeds are lacking.

Wonder what kind of tweaks they are performing.

Let's just hope they don't pull an AT&T fling, and start fineing for usage overage for heavy users (facepalm). If the term "unlimited" is mean for unlimited, then guess what it should be unlimited and that word in particular should NEVER be manipulated to the contrary. It's bad enough we Verizon users already get charged double for an early termination fee for smartphones, so hopefully (fingers crossed) that b/c of having an iPhone or Pre they don't follow suit. My 2 cents. - BLUEBOY

Technically the term unlimited means no limits to what you can browse. Total BS if you ask me.

I love my iPhone but I despise AT&T. When Verizon gets the iPhone I will jump ship in a heart beat.

I'd probably roll up the early termination fee and throw the money in their faces on my way out of the door to Verizon.

Too bad Verizon prices suck on the data plan. It's not worth it at all.

wasn't there some sort of news about Apple not going for Verizon because of the Droid Motorola phone commercial? How it beats Iphone? So now they are going to plan to have Iphone anyways? If they are, then Verizon will add me under their list, because At&T is sucking, I get too many drop calls, and I always lose damn signal in my damn house when it shouldn't, also what is the crap about trying to limit our 3g network usage crop from them? We pay the damn money, we expected to work, not drop calls or slow service. Kinda funny, I remember not too long ago At&t had commercials for "Fewest drop calls" Annnhhh WRONG!

interesting to see what happens! Well i am on sprint & 80% of my co workers r on ATT well i would say its 50/50 on who gets doped calls, it all seems to be the same areas that are bad

No matter WHO your mobile service provider is, you're gonna complain about it...at least MOST will.

I have never had a call dropped in the almost 6 years that I've used Verizon, but make no mistake Verizon will nail you for every penny they can get its hands onto. The only reason that I haven't moved from them is their consistency of coverage, and I figure all of the other services are going to gauge me somewhere. I think that cell phone service in the US needs regulation and some serious competition on price. There is absolutely no reason why some of the added services provided by cell phone companies should cost as much as it does.

I dont know if youve used verizon broadband and AT&T but At&t is way faster they might have a smaller 3g map but it doesn't really matter. It covers most places where people are going to use a phone anyways. I bet Verizon will mess up way worst than att when they get the iphone and their lines get raped lol If you hate att, verizon is not much better they both suck in terms of prices. T-mobile would be a better choice if you want something cheaper that has decent coverage.

Hmm, I don't have 3g coverage with AT&T at my house. Guess they don't have 3G everywhere people will use their phones.

lol but you do get coverage not just not 3g. I hate att though but its the only service that works perfect at my job. it was my first cell phone (cingular) same number for 8 years now i think bastards dont even give me a discount or never game me my 300 down because i got 2 lines when i first got my phone. Anyways any suggestions for a better carries. It all seems the same to me.

I think you may need to rethink your post about the 3G map coverage of Att's 3G coverage. Have you guys noticed that on the new Att commercials that are responding to Verizon saying Att 3G map coverage is spotty that Att goes on and on showing a map that covers the majority of the United States and then have someone reading letters for all the areas they cover? Pay close attention to the wording they use. This is the coverage they provide true but notice that they say coverage and not 3G coverage. That was verizons whole point that they dont have good 3g coverage. All that area they are showing on the map is EDGE coverage. EDGE is slow as hell if you are trying to get online and use the browser. If you have another smartphone besides the iphone it is ok. Every other smartphone i have seen my friends use has amazing speed using EDGE and iphone is like dial-up on edge bc it has such a high data usage. The Iphone demands a 3G network to be able to casually browse the internet. You can compare ATT EDGE coverage map and 3G coverage map on their homesite. Wait, let me see if i can post it here. Att site is down and i cant log in at the moment but i did google some maps to post.

This is the map that Att wants to make you believe is 3G coverage but they make sure they never say 3G in the commercials bc of false advertisment and Verizon and Att made attempts to sue each other over this map coverage with commercials. This is ATT EDGE COVERAGE

    http://www.cellfanatic.com/wp-content/up...overage-map.jpg

This is comparison of ATT and Versizons actuall 3Gcoverage

    http://www.mobileguerilla.com/images/verizon-att-3g-coverage.jpg

i would like to add one thing though to all who want to leave Att once the iphone is with other carries. I know that these other providers are getting their network ready to handle the iphones large data consumption but Att is adding more places and is suppose to have most of their EDGE areas upgraded to 3G soon. What will happen when all verizons users buy iphones and others come to verizon for iphone after leaving ATT? I know Verizon is great now but if they underestimate this number of iphone users.... then woa nelly you will back in the same situation again. I would personally wait a few months and finish out my contract with Att first rather than opt out having to pay cancellation fees. Then with Att currently upgrading their network to expand 3G coverage and be able to handle the data consumption of the iphone, taking into account that they upgraded the network and have some leave for what they think will be better coverage. This just will end up with Att possibly having an equal coverage area but with faster download and browsing speeds.

P.S. I have heard upon comparison from multiple people here on the
internet that Att actually has the faster 3G coverage of the
two. That is if you are lucky enough to stay in the major
metropolitan areas like Dallas TX, Houston TX, New Orleans LA.
When your town or city sits along a major interstate like I-20
that is a major interstate here in the south US that connects
the east cost and the west coast. Well i see no reason 3G
coverage shouldnot be there as this is also were a majority
of cell towers are found and i feel that i am paying the same
price for EDGE that someone is paying for 3G so where is the
hell is either my 3G signal or a discounted rate on my bill?

Thats $60 total. $30 -- unlimited data plan
$30 -- tethering plan for laptop

That's why my iphone is jailbroken now to take away the resrtictions they have put on the iphone. Some people are not aware that the motorolla droid doesnot is not really capable of much more than the iphone really is capable of doing.

Jailbroken iphone can 1. Run multiple apps (Battery life will suffer)
    2. Tether to laptop already
    3. 3G iphone can record video
lots of other things and freedoms as well.

Wish jailbreaking iphone would mean i could carry a spare battery and replace whenever old one got low and upgrade memory with a SD card. Kudos to the Droid for that one.

Yea. The tethering charge is cra. Just use PDANet and do I for free. You only give up official support from your provider and keep your unlimted plan truly unlimited.

This just makes me want to cry. I guess I'll have to wait longerto get a 3gs. It's ok Kay though, I'll continue to sit here at work on my 2g Jesus phone with appp backgroundig, video recording, and mms, for a little while longer. 3g speeds would be real sweet, but from a humble prospective the iPhone I have now will do untill t-mobile gets one. I'm not leaving any time soon. Been here since Voicestream and I get a sick deal.
