Apple tablet finally a reality?

Apple tablet finally a reality?
After word spread that Apple had rented a stage for a "major" announcement in January, the rumor mill was at full speed that the oft-rumored Apple-branded tablet may finally be a reality.

The Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal and Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster all had stories over the past few days, claiming that a "a major product announcement" was set for January. Munster gives it a 50/50 chance of being the tablet, while the WSJ says Apple is already debriefing media companies on how their content would work on the devices.

Munster said the tablet would likely be 7-10 inches, and would be priced between $500-700, giving it competitiveness in the netbook market without actually being a netbook. The tablet's OS would be a tweaked iPhone OS, or a multi-touch-enabled Mac OS X.

Additionally, the device could have 3G wireless integrated, and could be sold through cell phone carriers. Covering all bases, the tablet could also include e-book software for books that could eventually be sold through the iTunes Store.

We will keep you updated.

I'd agree with everything but the price... Munster thinks the iSlate is going to be only $100 - $300 more than the iPhone? (Retail cost is $399 unsubsidized).

This is Apple. This thing is going to START @ $699 for the crippled version, and the normal one (With decent storage) will probably cost $799-$899

Well lets be hopeful they have learned something with this past sistuation of sticking to one company if they are going to have 3G intergrated on it. That would be NOT to have it on AT&T's network.

Nice post though apple fan boy, you've probably already got your pre-order in. I apologize if I insulted the corporation that has been raping you. Monetarily of course.

I don't think I needed to prove to anyone your an apple fan boy, it was right there in your post. Maybe you should post your opinion about the article instead of making insulting comments. Maybe then YOU could prove you have a point. :)
If you disagree with me, and like their products great, to each his own, post about that. We don't need to make it personal.

No, you can get software for an iPhone...this will be running MacOS.

This is just downright pathetic...a 7"-10" tablet and people are excited? HP was making 15" tablets years ago...you can get a tablet from just about any company (other than Apple). With the screen size, it would seem that it is little more than a netbook without the keyboard, for twice the price. If apple wants to compete in the netbook market, why don't they make a netbook??? If they want to compete in the tablet market, why don't they make a tablet? Why would they make something that offers neither the performance and versitility of a tablet nor the portability of a netbook? All well...who cares, they could make Manure-based air fresheners and apple fans would buy them...there would even be people who would "Jail Break" their air fresheners to smell like something else...and I am sure AT&T would be happy to sell them with a 2-year contract.

So does the iPhone. Technically it's called iPhone OS, but it's basically just an ultraportable version of OS X.

Not if you like lemon juice...that'd be a waste.

iPhoneOS is about as close to Snow Leapord as Windows Mobile is to Windows 7.
