Apple Tablet to include e-book deal with HarperCollins?
Apple has set January 27th as a day for a "special event" in which the company is expected to reveal the long-hyped tablet which has so far been given the name "iSlate."

The rumored device will have a 10-inch screen among other notable features but the WSJ has posted today that the large publisher HarperCollins is negotiating with Apple to make e-books available alongside the launch of the tablet. Details are still shaky but it seems that HC will set the prices of the books, which will include added bonus features, and Apple will take a percentage of sales.

The books will likely be sold through iTunes.

The "bonus features" will include videos, author interviews and social-networking applications. Prices will jump from standard $9.99 to $14.99-19.99.

The tablet is expected to ship in March, with a price tag of about $999 USD.

this is getting rediculous. why would you pay for a 999 dollar tablet? for that, you can get a high speced pc and a 20 inch monitor/keyboard etc. it wont be a popular ereader, either... there are ereaders that are way better out there established for 199-249 RIGHT NOW.

Yeah there is that magical price point. So glad they kept it under the $1000 dollar mark. Better keep fishing cause it's not going to hook me.

Sad thing is, people will still buy this item, even tho its waaay overpriced, w/parts that are not even the latest and greatest, and will buy its cause it's whats new and what the select "in crowd" have. I have to shake my head on that one. If your friend jumped off a ledge b/c it whats in and hot thing to do, would you follow? I don't think you need an answer to that since you know what the answer is anyways. My 2 cents/end of rant. - BLUEBOY

Can I just say "Wow, there are some retarded people out there"!!!
And Apple knows it, otherwise why would make for them another utterly stupid, atrociously overpriced thing like this...That kind of money would by a nice laptop with plenty of features...
    Some fools...

That kind of money would not buy a nice Apple laptop...but then no amount of money can buy a nice Apple laptop because they don't exist.

Apple makes a business of selling piles of s**t as "The Next Big Thing". They make big announcements about their future announcements, and build the fury until people are willing to spend $100,000 just for a picture of the bloody thing. Who cares if it is trash, it is apple and it will sell to morons...just like all their other worthless products. People are STILL buying the iPhone with 2-year AT&T contracts...that should be enough to proove that no one does research at all.

I almost feel bad for the people who buy this crap, but then I remember that it is their own fault...in fact it is their fault that we still have to deal with the Apple corporation in general.
