iPhone OS 4.0 has some details revealed

iPhone OS 4.0 has some details revealed
BGR has posted some details for the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 firmware update from "Apple sources."

Says the site:

* There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)
* “A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.
* Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.
* The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”
* The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.

The firmware update should be official next week.

More concerned about when ahah. Excited just like when 3.0 was coming out, but that was more substantial than this.

Can we say immature?..........Why are we so quick to label someone a fanboy? or at least the shallow minded people out there. I know we have some that are just pretty fanboyish when they don't or can't provide any valid points to support their opinions or facts. Those kind get on my nerves too at times.

You really need to do the research as the iPhone can multitask when jailbroken and if you arenot jailbroken then well.....that's your fault you are missing out on the other things the iPhone is capable of doing. I'm not missing out. I don't see many smartphones here in the united states that can truely be compared as being on par. The ones that are truely good alternatives to the iPhone may be left behind again. At least by apples idea. Now I'm not saying it will or willnot set itself apart again from other smartphones bc I'm a realist but I will say I hope they do.

Apple has it's cons especially with being pricey but hell the iPhone did leave the smartphone industry behind for a long time. Fact..... There hasnot been a phone on the market that has caused such a stir since the release of the original motorolla razor. Everbody wanted one. Eventually it saturated the market and was floating across just about every diff phone providor. I remember when all u saw was people on razor phones. iPhone is the new measuring stick when we are discussing the OS and the hardware isnot bad either.

Right on about the RAZR/iPhone comparison.

I'm crossing my fingers for "Mark all as read/unread" and "Delete all message" in my email! Man is it annoying to select each individual message to delete! Come on Apple, you can't be this dumb!

WebOS by palm is the ultiamte in multitasking ATM. i woukldnt be surprised to see the cards metaphor taken from them by apple, its really good, and worth it. that and the superb notification system, which beats anroids aswell.

man! That got u frustrated too huh? I hate that when you are in iPod mode u can't change the equalizer settings without exitting and going through the settings menu.
They need to add a superb vido recorder to the 3g iPhone with the update. There's no reason why they couldnot. I have a decent one already bc I'm jailbroken but I would like better performance than 15 fps.

Honestly I wish I could play all my xbox 360 games on iPhone or micosoft make a nice handheld console that's able to play the same disc as the xbox 360 even online using wifi or 3g and use the actuall controller hooked to the phone. I think it would give a company the edge in gaming selling more consoles for home consoles as well. I mean think about it. Your playing call of duty on ps3/xbox360 and then u just take out the disc and continue playing while sitting at the dr office or while your wife shops all day for clothing and new shoes. Whoa now lex!!!! You are dreaming too big. Lmao honestly if Microsoft or Sony had a handheld that was interchangeable with the games..... It would probably take over the handheld industry for gamers. Bye bye psp and dsi

Wish I had 3g here now. It's suppose to be here soon in my area. That's my only c/o with AT&T. Edge is like dialup when u trying to use the data features. Verizon has a huge 3g coverage area that would actually cover where I live and all surrounding areas. We know AT&T 3g coverage is spotty and they have the audacity to say they have the better3g experience. What good does that do when it's only offered to a select few areas.

If I leave Firefox open all night, particular Flash applications will suck up system memory to the point where I must reboot in the morning. It's a memory hog and CPU intensive, and Adobe has acknowledge it; however that can't necessarily recreate the wheel and make a "mobile" version without it breaking ActionScript and other things.

So for now we are stuck, but I would bet not for too long. Adobe/Macromedia got this far in the web game with Flash and PDF, I doubt they'll let someone swoop in and steel the iPhone install base from them.

Take it easy lxhotboy, just giving xnonsuchx a little ribbing. We had a little back and forth that I thought was funny in a previous thread. No ill will intended.

Also, I wasn't talking about "jailbreaking" the post mentioned that the new update would allow a few new ways to multitask.

So, am I right in saying that the new firmware won't be compatible for the original / 2g Iphone?

Actually the legality of jailbreaking depends on your phone contract.. if you have bought the phone outright it belongs to you and you can do whatever you want with it, but if it is free with an 18 month contract then it isn't your property until the contract is up.. it remains property of the service provider until that date.

Yes, we give you 100% free, no strings attached email! Just send us your address and we will send you as much free email as you could ever wish for
