Sony to hold motion controller session at GDC
Sony has noted today that it will be holding a full motion controller session at the upcoming GDC event, allowing programmers to get a hands-on with the new "Arc" device.

The session is called 'Introducing the PlayStation 3 Motion Controller', and will be led by Kirk Bender, SCEA developer support, and David Coombes, SCEA platform research manager, says GI.biz.

The one-hour-long presentation will take place on March 11th.

Sony still hasn't gotten the PS2 Eye to work right, let alone the sixaxis...and now they are releasing another generation on motion sensing?

The PS2 Eyetoy worked fine as it stood for what it was imo, as well as the SixAxiS currently...both are limited by themselves inherently but combine all 3 together (New PSEye, DS3 & Arc controller) and you have something that is extremely accurate for quite a range of available actions/options within a game. The key word is accuracy and how it's speeds allows true 1:1 motion while playing.

I already assumed this based on every sixaxis compatable game I had tried...but I figured that maybe a game that was sixaxis-only would work better...it does not. As for the PSeye, you almost have to wear florescent body paint to get it to track your actions with any hint of accuracy or speed. I guess that it's primary purpose was as a webcam...and at least it does that.

It might be nice if they manage to make a working motion control system, but it is still going to be nothing more than a gimick.

Sony edited for content that violates forum rules. Nintendo have led games in a new direction (again), leaving the rest to play catch up. If the N64 had been CD-rom based instead of cartridge, playstation would've joined Sega and Atari in the scrapyard. They've built a console to sell to the mass MTV/edited consumer market. Most games are just PS2 re-hashes with better graphics, as PS2 games were to PS1 games, same edited, new packaging.

All Nintendo did was rip off Jackie Chan's Fitness Studio Video Gmae Console made by XaviX. And because of their name behind it, it became successful and to an extent actually has hindered the further development of core gaming/gamers and especially more so for the hardcore. Now 90% of the games on the Wii are for casual and non-core gamers...yeah, those kind of games are really interesting for the masses that have followed Nintendo since the 80's. /sarcasm

They actually helped the 2 most successful generations of gaming on ANOTHER system not of their own!

From being able to experience fear from when I came upon a Zombie eating a dead person in an upstairs back room on the FIRST ever Survival Horror game Resident Evil on PS1 or when the dogs came crashing through the window a little bit later on.

To learning how to use a dual analog stick within Ape Escape when trying to catch stupid mischievous monkeys with red conical lights on their heads using a remote control car with one stick while controlling the main character with the other! Right on down to being able to race on insanely accurate REAL LIFE tracks that I have only and STILL dream about doing one day in/with what Gran Turismo has been able to let me experience...hell I still get shivers whenever I watch the intro to GT1 ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGH3uG4gGI4 and I can never forget racing around SS R11 at night perfectly timing the lane change section at over 150 mph in a dropped, tweaked and worked RUF! Only to be saddened that they removed the lane switch section in GT3.

Re-hashes...Wow...I am soooo glad I don't have that kind of an outlook on it!
