Odeon cinema chain to boycott Alice in Wonderland in UK

Odeon cinema chain to boycott Alice in Wonderland in UK
Due to a dispute over the DVD release plans of Tim Burton's new Alice in Wonderland movie, Odeon movie theaters in the UK, Ireland and Italy will not screen the film. Walt Disney Pictures has decided to release the movie on DVD only 12 weeks after it is shown in theaters, instead of the usual 17 weeks.

Odean theaters in Germany, Austria, Spain and Portugal will show Alice in Wonderland however, as there is a longer gap between theatrical and DVD release in those countries. The company said it is worried that Disney's decision to reduce the gap to 12 weeks will "inevitably set a new benchmark" making the 12 week gap more common.

Other cinema chains in Britain have also cried foul about the 12 week gap to the DVD release, but so far no others have chosen to boycott the movie in the region. Odeon said that it had invested "considerable sums of money" in digital projection equipment to display 3D movies and a shorter window to screen films undermines that investment.

The Cineworld chain announced last week that it reached a "satisfactory compromise" with Disney and so would be screening the movie in 150 of its screens in Britain.

Sirously theater chains should should stop showing new films until the media mafia drops their price on them by 50% so the need of 10$ snacks will be a thing of the past....

dumbass reason to boycott the movie. they fail to realise it the only way to see it in 3D is in the cinema. guess the other cinemas can enjoy the extra business.

Oh, boo hoo! Let's all cry a river! My god, it's not like they're losing money at the concession stands in the theatres anyways. But, seriously, like what Zippy said, media needs to be dropped to half, in this way DVDs/BDs will see in droves, and the theatre/media companies can stop bitching about their loss in money..well take that back, they're going to bitch regardless of whether they lose money or not.

no kidding. nato (national organization of thetaer owners) should have enough pull to say, "hey, if you want your movies shown, we're gonna need a bigger cut, so we don't have to rape customers on the concessions". of course, if they got heir way, they wouldn't change concession prices and just pocket the the rest.

Who gives a crap, odeon sux anyway, they are still using old projectors (in my town anyway), after seeing what digi projectors can do odeon really does look crap, small and a bit blurry.
Also, their reasoning for doin it are stupid, the dvd release comes sooner, big deal, the pirateers will still leech and the movie buffs will still go to cinema and buy it if its a worthy purchase!!!!
