Simon Cowell signs letter urging UK Government to be tough on Internet pirates
A group of TV and music industry personalities have written a letter to members of parliament in the UK urging them to vote in favor of anti-piracy measures outlined in the Digital Economy Bill. Signatories include Simon Cowell, author Sir Terry Pratchett, Tim Bevan, Stephen Garrett and Paul Greengrass. Bevan is co-chairman of Working Title Films, Garrett is a leading TV producer and Greengrass is director of movies such as United 93 and two Bourne titles.

One of the clauses in the Digital Economy Bill would punish file sharers by cutting their access to the Internet. Internet Service Providers (ISP) fiercely oppose the plan, saying that it is not their job to police the Internet or spy on their customers. "Britain is admired for its creativity and its sense of fair play," the letter to MPs reads, adding that the country's artists "contribute more than 7% to the UK economy".

"The digital economy bill.... will ensure that British creators, entertainment companies, and the 1.8 million people who work in and around the cultural sector are respected and rewarded in the future as they have been in the past," it states.

"Digital entertainment services are really beginning to take off, but for these new business models to develop, it is critical that more is done to prevent the illegal services providing easy access to free content."

lol, Simon Cowell. Pump a lagging (supposedly) industry with countless talentless individuals and complain after that sales are affected by piracy.

Maybe we should lobby to have their excessive incomes capped, their rights infringed. Maybe we should fine THEM, when they release the rubbish they usually do. In my opinion, they are the theives.

I have a low income, a vast proportion of my income goes on entertainment. In percentage terms their "turkeys" are much more finanially devastating to me than it would be for Mr Cowell, etc. Not to Make a few more grand a second.

Have to agree with jos22. If Simon didn't support the corporate formula, he'd be missing a large chunk of his income. Its a no brainer, kinda like one of Santa's elves ratting out Santa.
He has the fortitude to sit through countless hours of pop music, I would be shocked if he rolled over and bit the hand that fed him.
Yet another idiot feeding at the corporate tit, but hey, that's just my opinion.

If your fish seems sick, put it back in the water.

in the olden days to find out if a lp or cd was any good you would go to the local library and hire it for a week for about 50p for some reason i never saw the libraries being taken to court by the record companies for supplying people with music to copy

Simon Cowell ? Isn't he that 50-something old queen with the saggy tits who bitches his mouth off on cheap trash tv reality shows and surrounds himself with exotic beauties in a desperate attempt to get us to believe he is heterosexual ? Anybody who has gone out with Sinitta has to be gay, it's like being married to Judy Garland or Liza Minelli.

Simon just needs a good old fashion ass whooping... like that guy doesn't have enough money off of his stupid tv show as it is... hes getting rich off of all of the people that show up to audition and perform, whether good or bad.. maybe he should fork all of those people over a chunk of his paycheck.

After reading all the comments on this thread i agree with most of them, yes piracy is pretty bad (if EVERYONE did it the industry would collapse over night), but i also feel that they are being greedy to a certain extent but it is the principle that is wrong here (I know I would be really pi**ed off if my hours of work were stolen).

Its a bit like a while ago when they were trying to crack down on illegal mp3 downloads, the artists werent the ones making waves, it was the music production companies cos its them who were losing the most, i read quotes from artists like "I dont care how u get or listen to my music, as long as u listen and enjoy it" and another 1 said "the record company steals most of my money, the fans might as well do it too.." (cos the artist probably only makes about 5% of the sale of each cd), they all make their big bucks from touring!!!

To sum up, Cowell is a bit of a tool but at least he made his own fortune and didnt get it all handed to him like most unappreciating fatcats do!!!

Have you ever heard of the off button or the channel button? Secondly, have you ever heard of "grammar" and "syntax"?
