PlayStation Home userbase jumps to 12 million

PlayStation Home userbase jumps to 12 million
The popular PlayStation Home virtual world has reached 12 million users, says PS Home director jack Buser.

Noting the figures at the Game Developers Conference, Buser says Home users have doubled since June 2009, and jumped 20 percent since December.

85 percent of users that created an avatar on their first visit returned for a second visit and Buser says average users spend "hours" at a time in the virtual world.

"You're going to see us really embrace this idea of total game integration,"
adds Buser of future plans for Home. "It's an incredibly important part of [Sony's] strategy."

Titles will be given dedicated Home space, as well as bonus mini-games.

Once and a while when me and my friends have a little to much to drink we'll go on and tell people that we don't have a mic or keyboard then start dancing..... you kinda gotta be there, doesn't seem as funny now.

Its a waste of space on a hard drive if you ask me. what is the real purpose of it? They should spend time on something important like their suck web browser that I've been waiting for them to update forever.

So can someone tell me of their Home experience? I don't have a PS3. I'm not looking for a brutal bashing of it unless you really think it is completely void of worth. Thanks :D

Looks like I'll be joining the PS3 bandwagon. For years I was 360 only, but oddly I got my self convinced to give it a shot. Got a backward compatible version, hopefully it won't die out on me, just gonna upgrade my hard drive. I not much of a multi-player gamer or am I social on net, so I can't see me being a fan; but we'll see. For now I still prefer gaming on my 360, nothing personal to PS3 fans out there, but I just like the feel on the controls better.

PS3 Home is a lot like a central park of a city...but not really.

Since there are 12,000,000 users, and only about enough room for maybe 200 users in a space, you never see everyone, and the people on your friends list never seem to spawn in the same rooms as you. Movement is terrible; no jumping...just walking; no fast running. Some multiplayer games can be launched from Home, but they can be launched much faster from outside of home.

There are some games in the various home spaces, but you usually have to wait your turn...I have never been able to play chess; even after waiting in line for over an hour. Same goes for bowling. I have only been able to play pool once...and the physics were terrible (GTA4 had better pool). There are also the newer rooms, such as the EA center, where you can play poker, drive cars, etc. Same issue here; good luck getting a seat at the table.

Different regions get different spaces. I like the Hong Kong version of home a lot more than the NA version...as the NA version looks like it was designed by Disney.

The biggest problem with the service is the kids. People let their 5-year old children on there...and you can't tell them apart from anyone else until they start saying "I gotta go poopie". This also means that there is a Nazi-level censorship program in place, and you can get banned just for discussing certain medical conditions.

There is also a jukebox filled with music so terrible that no one is willing to pay for it...and it is usually the same song being played over and over...and you cannot dissable music; you simply have to avoid the area.

They also ave private spaces that you can buy and hang out with your clan...but why bother when you can do videoconferencing for free?
