If you want porn, get an Android phone, says Steve Jobs
Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been responding to customer emails a lot lately, but his latest email has made the headlines, probably because it involves pornography.

When asked by customer Matthew Browning about Apple's role in being gatekeepers, Jobs responded: "We do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone. Folks who want porn can buy an Android phone."



This is the second time in the last month that Jobs has made a public connection between rival operating system Android and porn. At a Q&A after the unveiling of OS 4.0, Jobs had said: "You know, there’s a porn store for Android. You can download nothing but porn. You can download porn, your kids can download porn. That’s a place we don’t want to go – so we’re not going to go there."

Apple and Google are just in the beginning stages of what should end up being the biggest rivalry in the smartphone market, and it seems for now Apple is trying to make some subtle slights at Android.

    Now all the people who were considering buying a iPhone and occasionally look at pr0n are going to buy the Android; instead of buying the iPhone then diappointingly find out that they cannot browse 9r0n.

    Apple has lost potential customers who like pr0n, which is a pretty huge market.

    Well maybe Steve figures that frequent porn viewers are not getting screwed and if you purchase the iPhone or most other Apple products you are getting screwed so there is no need for the porn anymore.

    Don't be knocking porn. Some of us would rather have the option of getting T&A on our phone then have someone else tell us what we can and cant download (a la apple).

    The problem is not that pron is not allowed... the problem is who decides what is pron and what is not.
    I'd rather be allowed to make that decision myself, being an adult and all.

    Unfortunately for them, all Blu-ray protections have been broken and BD rips can be found around the Internet, usually before the retail even hits shelves.

I do not see how they can stop browsing regular internet when it comes to adult material but maybe some better parental controls in the app store maybe. Of course many parents don't do such thing even though they are present in many things like Game Consoles, Computer Operating Systems and other tech equipment already. I have shown a few parents how to lock down their kids XBoxes and use things like the parental controls and "Family Safety" in Windows to prevent things like playing rated M games and filtering adult material on the web. Most are fairly easy to do and only take a few minutes to set up. Ultimately it is up to the parent to decide. If Mommy and Daddy allow their 8 year old to look at porn on their iPod or play rated M games and apps that is their fault and Steve-O should not be deciding for us. I tribute his attitude to his god complex that he feels that he is better than everyone else. At least that is the impression I get when I hear and see him present.

    China blocks sites that they consider bad when they find them. I was thinking more of an apple app-store-like internet, where pages can only be viewed by users once they have been submitted and approved by apple...and where sites like HP.COM, Google.com, NORML.ORG, and REDTUBE.COM do not exist. At this point, I honestly would not be suprised to see apple do this, "For the Kids"...but it is turned on by default, and you have to make a call to disable the blocks...and on the next model after that, they will just leave it blocked for everyone and tell users with new 2-year contracts, "If you want Google.com, go to android!"

    Steve Jobs and Apple don't want you to see certain comics if they are a bit too political, they don't want you to see certain pictures if they think the pics are a bit too rude... how do these pretentious smarms get people to buy their products? Ok so its got a cool interface but what good is that when three quarters of cyberspace is a no go area? The internet is already being reeled in gradually by the nanny state.
