Nintendo to ramp up security for upcoming 3DS handheld
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said this weekend that anti-piracy measures will be increased substantially for the upcoming 3DS handheld, with the company hoping to stop the widespread software piracy that has plagued the DS and DSi.

The console, which is set for launch at the E3 event next month, will include "3D" displays without the need for special glasses.

There is little other known about the console except that it will be released sometime before March 2011.

While he admitted that piracy is not as bad in the United States, in Europe and Asia it is rampant and has led to strong declines in software sales, especially in Europe.

Adds the president: "We fear a kind of thinking is become widespread that paying for software is meaningless. We have a strong sense of crisis about this problem."

Additionally, Iwata added that the 3D functions of the device could be "easily" turned off, so any worries that continued exposure to the 3D would have adverse effects on people's eyes are off base.

Well he could've easily gave an unrealistic number like the RIAA and say you have to be connected to wifi 100% of the time just to play the game like Ubi did. At least he is being modest about it.

Also $40 for those games is far too much for games like that on PC you pay $10 or $15.

i for 1 like zelda, mario, mariokart, and pokemon games.what the ds needs is better gfx like and sound like the psp, compare the burnout raceing games on each system, and the psp wins, the ds has hard-ly any music with that game, which i know they could have added it.but still i liked the ds due to the gb, and gbc, gba support.

    ps2,gcube,nds,gba,xbox360,psp,n64,snes,sega,nintendo,dvd,hd tv,lover:) pc master!

don't like what i say or post, than get lost!!!! and don't say nothing at all!

    ps2 still rocks!!

They can do whatever they want as long as it isn't intrusive to the paying customer. It won't be for pirates either way, as the likes of EA and Ubi have proven again and again.

How can you claim lost sales over intangible goods and numbers?

Until lobbying is a hanging offense I choose anarchy!
Ah modern gaming its like modern film only the watering down of fiction and characters is replaced with shallow and watered down mechanics, gimmicks and shiny-er "people".

Sheeya, nice one buddy. Doesn't matter if you give the 3DS the most advanced security device, someone somewhere will crack it. It has happened it the past, and it will happen again. It's just a question of when.
