T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide gets priced, release date

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide gets priced, release date
T-Mobile has finally announced the pricing and release date for the myTouch 3G Slide, the successor to the first ever Android phone, the G1.

The device will be released on June 2nd, and will cost $179.99 with two-year contract.

The phone includes a 600 MHz ARM processor, Android 2.1 with HTC Sense and multi-touch support, 512MB of RAM, 512MB internal storage, a 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash, and a free 8GB MicroSD card.

The device has a 3.4-inch HVGA (320 x 480 pixel) touchscreen, and a trackpad as well.

One feature missing from the 2.1 included with the new Slide is "live wallpapers," interactive backgrounds that can be found on high-end devices such as the Nexus One and HTC Incredible.

Swype is the default keyboard, giving users the chance to use the record-breaking text input system that has been in closed beta for some time now.

HTC noted today that the device will get the 2.2 Froyo update later this year as well, which promises a 400 percent performance boost, tethering, portable hotspot tech, built-in Flash 10.1, and Microsoft Exchange enterprise capabilities.

"the myTouch 3G Slide, the successor to the first ever Android phone, the G1... The phone includes a 600 MHz ARM processor..."

The successor with a 400mhz weaker processor? Epic fail on T-mobs part.

EDIT: nvm I was thinking about the N1, but still, my point stands. the N1 is (and has been ) available on T-mob network. Not only that, but it's the ONLY phone running Android 2.2 at the moment.

    myTouch is still a fail.

FAIL...by the time it comes out, the Droid will have 2.2 and will be blowing this thing out of the water for less money.

I will likely be doing a review of this phone, as I will be purchasing it in early June. I need a slide-out keypad, and refuse to move from GSM to CDMA. May wait until it gets the official OTA 2.2 update, however.

The processor is a bit of a disappointment, yes, but it can be overclocked, and 2.2 boasts improved battery life to offset that. The device has already been reviewed favorably over both the Droid and N1.

Last year, I went from the G1 to the HTC Touch Pro 2. I went from using android to windows mobile, but I had no trouble using it as a modem for my laptop. Keyboard is nice, and the screen can be tilted towards you when watching clips.

"The device has already been reviewed favorably over both the Droid and N1."

?And? Those are both old phones that cost a lot less. At the price they are selling it, it is competing with the HTC incredible...and it can't compete.

I seriously expected more...something that could at least compete with the incredible, or (at a lower price) could compete with the economy Android devices. Google may be great at rolling out an OS software, but not so good at the hardware side of things.

"The processor is a bit of a disappointment, yes, but it can be overclocked"
-So can all Android devices, even the incredible. It is the same chip as the droid, so it can't be overclocked much past 1200, even in ideal situations.

I have been holding out on an android phone because I want it all.
Currently have a samsung behold, was looking at the g1 but the size and lack of a flash stopped me.
With a 5mp Camera w/flash, std earphone jack, real keyboard, etc., this phone seems to have just about everything on my wish list except the snapdragon processor.

Would love some feedback from all of you who have myTouch Slide already, incl. battery life, processor speed (good enough?),glitches, speaker volume, signal strength, likes dislikes. Can you watch shows on it via hulu or other websites? GPS with voice nav (how is it?), my question was also posted on http://www.mytouchslideforum.com

    Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Although you are probably just spamming, I will still respond. This phone blows the G1 out of the water. The camera is nice, the processor does the tasks it needs to, but a 1Ghz Snapdragon would have been preferable as I tend to multitask ALOT of apps at once.

I get over 10 hours of battery life always, with constant messaging, Internet use, and streaming quotes.

Speaker volume is kinda low, unfortunately.

Flash sites will be available with the intro of Android 2.2, soon.
