iPads banned from Yankee Stadium

Yankee Stadium, home of the defending World Series champions, has just added the Apple iPad to its prohibited device list, which already included all laptops.

Team officials say it is nothing personal to the iPad, but bunches the tablet in with all laptops.

The ban is a "security-and-safety" issue, they add.

When asked, Major League Baseball said iPad bans are a team-by-team decision, and the New York Mets and the Seattle Mariners have already announced the device is allowed in their respective stadiums.

In April, the iPad was banned in Israel due to wireless standards irregularities, but the ban was subsequently lifted.

I used to hate the Yankees, seeing how they embody whats wrong with the sport of baseball. Now I say they aren't so bad.
If it is a bad experience going to a live game and having to listen to the guy next to me be a fanboy of their local team no matter how ignorant their arguement, imagine that fanboy x10 explain how their ipad is better than life the entire game. Sheer punishment.

Yeah...they need to remove all the fanboys from the stadium...starting with the ones who wear all those ugly Yankee's uniforms, yet don't even play.

I have to say this is perplexing...not everyone drinks...and there is no way you can get through a baseball game sober without a laptop, or at least something like the iPad...so you can watch real entertainment while they play their silly little game.

All baseball haters aside, this brings up an interesting point.
I think most iPad buyers thought they'd be able to take them everywhere, like a phone, but instead they are being treated like a notebook computer. This could become a big issue. Where is the line drawn? A smartphone is ok but a dumb notebook is not? Is it "size of screen" or "type of net connection" that matters?

Right now there is only one "pad" but eventually there will be lots of different ones. Is the iPad excluded but others are ok? What criteria is used for not allowing them.

The new EVO phone has a 4.3" screen and full network connectivity. Is it allowed?

These are good questions that will become more and more important in the months and years to come.

Unfortunately for them, all Blu-ray protections have been broken and BD rips can be found around the Internet, usually before the retail even hits shelves.

Actually, there are others, it was not even the first...it is just that the others are faster and more capable...and a little bit larger. Oh, and they probably fall under the laptop ban too.

Qualifications of a laptop to the Yankees:
1.) Keyboard has nothing to do with it, as Droid is allowed and iPad is not.
2.) Screen size has nothing to do with it, as kindle is allowed.
3.) Network has nothing to do with it, as android devices are allowed, as well as iPaq-style mini-tablets with no call capabilities.
4.) OS is not considered, as the iPad uses iPhone OS, and iPhones are allowed.
5.) Processor, ram, and storage are not considered, as the HTC incredible is allowed, but the iPad is not.
6.) HD Video cameras are allowed, 8MP still cams are also allowed...not that the iPad has a camera.

The only thing I can think is that they must have some maximum size for a color screen; probably to keep people from watching other, more interesting sports when their idiot friends drag them to the game.

BTW...I would pay to watch blernsball (the fictional evolution of BaseBall from Futurama)...and I would pass out before I was drunk enough to be interested in baseball.

I guess my point was no matter what sporting event I've been to I've always sat next to the guy that thinks he knows all the stars, their stats, team stats, strategy and talking about it passionately like he really believe's he's intelligent---all while everyone around is looking for knitting needles to stab out their eardrums to keep from listening.

In baseball you hit the ball and if you get it into the crowd or out of the stadium you've got a homerun.in soccer no matter how hard you kick the ball or how much spin you put on it theres still a goal keeper and some of them goal keepers are really quick.

Still...a 0-0 game is incredibly long and hard to watch (even if you are drunk). They should make the goals bigger, or make a rule that only midgets can play the goalie position...or something. We have a lot of old, tiresome sports that need facelifts bad.

Ive seen female body builders and i dont fancy chicks with veins popping out their breasts.havn't really seen much womans basketball but i can imagine there just as bad as the female body builders.

No you get rid of the inning system, you have points and team rotation every 15-20 minetes and the game ends in 1-2 hours no more no less.

The world loves soccer(the real football FYI) so I dare not change it any :P

Ya its just in bad need of modernization its not strong enough to sustain itself off of ture fans and public drunks , it needs to win up in less than 2 hours. From researching BB a bit and drooling over Cross game anime it seems to me points for strikes,bases,home runs,running all the bases every 15-20 minutes each side gets 2 sets each a coin toss to start and after each had their turn a coin toss to start the last 2.

You can also add in minus's for bunts, to many balls(every 3 you get 1 point loss),hitting the batter(5 point loss) fouls(minus one foul every 10 fouls).

Keep the game in the ditches and make it about skill over stamina and wow it would be amazing to watch.

Oh... the United States Rugby team is not a bad side either and getting better. I was impressed the last time I saw them play. Here the US pits itself against the rest of the world on a regular basis... it's like Grid Iron (American football) with a blood bin and less long breaks so more happens. (Last time I watched a Rose Bowl match I kept thinking it was the end of the game haha. They'd stop the game, the players would go off the field, lots of singing and dancing and carrying on, after about 5 mins the players would line up and go for it for about ten secs before stopping again...)

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

to all you soccer fans,i was just joking about the lack of scoring making it boring,although this is the north american perception of the game.people here are used to american football.its hard for us to watch a sport for the skills involved rather than the scores.come to think of it its a lot like baseball in a way.good god i may have said too much here.lol.
