MyTouch 3G to get Android 2.2 Froyo

MyTouch 3G to get Android 2.2 Froyo
While rooted users of the device have had Android 2.2 for some time, T-Mobile has "announced" today that the MyTouch 3G will receive the official firmware update in the near future.

Earlier in the day, HTC Taiwan noted that a few HTC devices have been updated to Android 2.1, with the firmware update expected to go live in the UK later in the month, as well. HTC Hero, Legend and Desire owners should begin receiving the update this week.

HTC also noted last month that the brand new myTouch 3G Slide would get updated to Android 2.2 Froyo, but it was unclear whether original myTouch users would see the update.

According to a leaked internal memo, it does appear the myTouch will get the update, which will add the Genius button, full Microsoft Exchange support and an updated Faves gallery.

T-Mobile G1 users, the first ever owners of an Android device, are still trapped with 1.6 unless they have rooted their devices.

"In the near future" isn't a terribly reassuring statement; we are still waiting for microsoft to fix bugs in windows 3.1 that they said would be fixed "In the near future"

Hell, had to listen to the "HTC Hero will update to 2.1 for almost a whole quarter" I'll believe it when I see it. Don't get me wrong though. I absolutly love my android phone. Hell my girl friend calls it my pocket girlfriend.

Goto sprints support site for the hero and goto downloads. There wasn't an over the air update due to the vast changes so you have to update it manually.

I've been using 2.1 on my mt3g for a few weeks now thanks to cyanogen, and it ruins beautifully. I'm confident cyanogen will have a 2.2 rom before TMO releases their official update but this is still exciting news. I'm not sure if I'd want to go back to an "official" rom however.

Yes the update is there, but that was after they announced it November of last year, then started saying it would be released in Febuary, then March, then April, Finally it was released May 19th. So yes there was an update from 1.6 to 2.1. But this was in regards to the waitting of it actually getting realeased.
