HTC EVO 4G getting Android 2.2 Froyo very soon

Speaking to Cnet, Sprint has said the popular HTC EVO 4G will soon be getting the highly anticipated Android 2.2 firmware update.

Froyo features many new features that most users have been expecting and wanting. The main two are the addition of Flash (built-in) and the addition of Wi-Fi tethering. 2.2 is said to bring 450 percent performance increases, as well. Additionally, desktop to handset music streaming, Apps2SD and a "one-handed camera UI" are part of the update.

Sprint says the carrier is finalizing the software and the update is coming in the "near future."

Unfortunately for Hero or Moment owners, the carrier says there is no 2.2 update expected for their devices.

  not surprised, its been a year since they were released, and HTC have a lot more phones now, i expect a years supprt atleast, so if HTC do thats, alls good.

  I expect 2 years support after the last date of sale; they should not cut off support while people are still under contract for the phone.
  
  I almost feel sorry for incredible owners; they probably won't get gingerbread without root. Then again, who would want a non-rooted android device?

  Don't confuse an OS update with product support. There is never a warranty that future releases of an OS will fit older hardware. They will keep supporting the older product with new patches to the original firmware if needed to correct problems or even with a possible hardware substitution if a proven physical or mechanical defect is discovered. They will "support" your older product to keep it in working condition.
