Hulu Plus for PS3 will require PlayStation Plus subscription?
Hulu announced yesterday the launch of Hulu Plus, a premium version of the popular streaming site that will cost $10 per month.

Buyers of the subscription get expanded content, and the ability to play the shows on their HDTVs, Blu-ray players, Xbox 360 (with Gold subscription), PS3 and iPad and iPhone.

Hulu Plus gives users season passes for most current shows, which is a massive improvement from only being able to watch the trailing five episodes of a given show. You will also be able to watch back seasons of the shows.

Today, Technologizer is reporting that Hulu Plus will only be available to PS3 users who have a PlayStation Plus subscription, which costs $50 per year, or $18 for 90 days.

On top of that, Hulu Plus is still ad-supported, meaning if you want the service on your PS3 (or Xbox 360) you will need to pay for two premium subscriptions and still see ads.

Pay Hulu = One season of a few shows
Netflix Streaming = at least one season of most shows; several seasons of many shows; large movie collection
    Pay Hulu = $10 a month, plus $50 a year for PS+
    Netflix Streaming = $9 a month
Pay Hulu = Ads on all shows
Netflix Streaming = No ads; even the ads built into DVDs are removed
Pay Hulu = Works on your PS3.
Netflix Streaming = Works on almost everything; all we need now is an Android app.

Yeah...I think I'll stick with netflix...if hulu offered something like a giant DVR service, where I could watch any show broadcast any time in the last year (with all commercials removed), then I would get it in addition to netflix; but it does not offer anywhere near that much content...and they add commercials to what content they have.

what a surprise now sony has a large customer base they start to remove features and try to charge you!

is anyone really surprised that their "always free" service is now demanding an overpriced payment, sony followers are so gullible they will lap this up as its the next best thing. having money & little intelligence is sony's target customer base!

btw fanboys, the games are only free to play atm!

PS+ is for those who want the service. The rest of us don't need to be bothered with it if we're happy with the existing PSN service. As for gullible or not, it's for the well informed consumers. IMO, the PS+ is not that great, considering that i have most of the "free" games already. The Hulu Plus is not a bargain either comparing to Netflix's fee. However, for gamers constantly buy new PSN games or avatars, this is a bargain for them. Believe it not, they might think the rest of the PS3 gamers are dumb for not embracing this new PS+ service.

All and all, PS+ is an optional service and let's leave it at that... I'm just glad that it's OPTIONAL.

    Peace!

I just hope that it stays optional, and that the features that are currently on PSN free stay on PSN free. (if they were to make PSN free like Xbox live silver, that would be like killing PSN free).

But what am I saying...it is Sony, and they promised us that PSN will always be free...anyone want to start a pool on the date that they break that promise?

It's been a while since I posted on AD... are we still required to take people seriously if they don't research their point of view first? Even if they don't research it at all?

Confirmed: PlayStation Plus not required for Hulu Plus

Quote:PlayStation Plus is not required to use Hulu Plus on PS3....the PlayStation Plus service is only a requirement during the preview period. Once the preview period ends you should be able to download the Hulu Plus app but that will still require the Hulu Plus subscription.
