NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 460 receives praise

NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 460 receives praise
NVIDIA's latest DirectX 11 GPU, the GeForce GTX 460, has debuted to considerable praise among game developers and tech reviewers for its performance and more importantly, its price. The GeForce GTX 460 contains 336 NVIDIA CUDA cores and 56 texture units, and is available in two flavors; 768MB with a 192-bit memory interface for $199 and 1GB with a 256-bit memory interface for $229.

NVIDIA's release declared the $199 as the "sweet spot for gamers". The new GPU has full support for NVIDIA 3D Vision technology for 3D Blu-ray and video game titles. "With the GeForce GTX 460, NVIDIA is really upping the ante with an amazingly fast DirectX 11 GPU available at a great, mainstream-friendly price. Its new hardware tessellation support will enable games to reach an entirely new caliber of graphics." -- Tim Sweeney, Founder of Epic Games, said.

The GeForce GTX 460 768MB version is available currently from NVIDIA's add-in card partners, including ASL, ASUS, Colorful, ECS, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision 3D, Jetway, KFA2, Leadtek, MSI, Palit, Point of View, PNY, Sparkle, Zotac and others. The GeForce GTX 460 1GB is expected by July 26, 2010.

"NVIDIA platforms continue to be the Gold Standard at Id Software for quality, performance, and support," said id Software Technical Director, John Carmack.

I bet the cheap one would make Solidworks 2010 run smooth as italian leather...I might even buy one once they work through the driver issues that plague every video card for the first few driver releases.

    "Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 104 C"
-WOW! If I get bored of 3D modeling, I can use this thing to brew a pot of tea to help me relax! I sure hope it isn't RoHS.

Quote:...is available in two flavors; 768MB with a 192-bit memory interface for $199 and 1GB with a 256-bit memory interface for $299. Is the 1GB price a typo, cause I think it's only $229. Also, I think max temperature is just the threshold without any external air circulation, otherwise 104C is rediculously hot for just playing a game. I know the GTX 480's got as hot as ~90c, so who knows. Otherwise I might be getting this card, it's at a really good price for me.

Whats a good card to replace a 8800GT 610MB DDR 3 EVGA super clock card? should I go with a ATI X2 or what ninvida has?

Nice.. But how it performs against GTX260 sp216? I have an Palit's piece, and it overclocks well. I know, this one has dx11 and tesselation, but how in real world? I doesn't own an single dx11 game yet..
