Firefox 4 now in second beta

Mozilla has released the second beta of their upcoming Firefox 4 browser, fixing hundreds of bugs and improving speed along with adding support for CSS Transitions.

The company released the first beta at the beginning of July and promised the beta 2 for last week but hit small delays.



Beta 3 is expected to hit August 6th, with the first full release candidate (RC) expected to be released in October.

A main new feature for Firefox 4 is improved tab location, as shown in the picture at left. Beta 2 adds the ability for Mac users. The "tabs are given top visual priority for more efficient and intuitive browsing." just like in Google Chrome.

Additionally, the browser supports full HMTL5 and WebM: "As pioneers of HTML5 video standards, Firefox also supports the WebM format so you can watch open HD quality video."

As for CSS Transitions, part of the CSS3 specification, the browser will support it, thanks to the new Gecko 2.0 page layout engine.

Just like with each new update, JavaScript has been made speedier, with other performance enhancements, as well.

  All I've got say is it better have an option to use the old interface or I won't be upgrading.

You can click the orange Firefox thing in the top left put the mouse over customize and click tabs on top to make it go the the bottom and then click menu bar and it will look like it all ways has and you might want the book marks tool bar (located in same place). I like fire fox even though it in beta because it start in about a second rather that ten seconds on my computer.

  I hope some of the "hundreds of bugs" fixed includes the "clipboard bug" and the Bug where some pages appear in code (happens to me a lot when I first load AD). Hopefully this will convince me not to switch browsers like I've been considering.

  heys dudes, all i have to say is that i still use firefox 2.0.0.20 [the last good interface imho] also made to fool websites that im using 3.6 haha! so that i can use it with youtube still without annoying pop-up upgrade! on my main computer, and also have lolifox installed [lol XD] and basicly on my netbook im using COMODO DRAGON BROWSER [with auto-update disabled by me ;] WHICH IS FREAKING AWESOME, and extremely fast. highly recommended for laptops and netbooks.
