Verizon confirms Droid 2 release date, Froyo
Motorola's heavily touted Droid 2 smartphone has been confirmed for an August 12th release date.

The date comes from an internal Verizon blog, which while unconfirmed, seems real.

Details are laid out about the smartphone in the leaked pages, as well, with the most notable being the launch-day addition of Android 2.2 Froyo. Android 2.2 includes 450 percent better performance, an improved browser, built-in Flash 10.1 support, and Apps2SD among other features.

Swype will also come pre-installed, giving users arguably the best virtual keypad typing system available.

The device has a 1GHz processor, a QWERTY keypad, 8GB onboard memory, and an 8GB microSD card.

Additionally, the phone will come pre-installed with a plethora of Verizon apps, Skype Mobile, NFL Mobile, Blockbuster, City ID and 3G Mobile Hotspot.

Sounds like you will need to root; as the included apps usually can't be removed in any other way, and I doubt many people are going to want these crummy apps (that probably start by themselves)...I mean, Blockbuster? I thought they went out of business?

For as much as the phone cost you you should get a 32gb card or at-least 16gb. Greedy bastards just want to make more money off of us.

That's why I prefer a Droid X or Incredible that come with a 16GB card, so I WON'T be jipped when I get my phone. BTW if the rumor is true, it's cool to see Incredible's video bumped to 720p, but just wish they do something with that camera sticking out on the back, it's really annoying.

The incredible is an old joke...it does not even have 8GB onboard memory. As for the MicroSD card, 16GB cards are really cheap, but they tend to be slow. Since these new phones support Apps2SD, it is possible that they are using 8GB cards to give better speed. I don't know for sure, just saying it is possible. Either way, if you need space, you can get a 16GB card cheap, or you can even get a 32gb if you are willing to pay a lot more.
