Xbox Live Gold subscription getting more expensive soon

Xbox Live Gold subscription getting more expensive soon
According to XBL director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, a Gold subscription to Xbox Live will soon cost you significantly more.

Starting November 1st, users in the U.S., UK, Canada and Mexico will face a price increase for the service.

In the U.S., a one month Gold card will jump from $7.99 to $9.99. A 3-month sub will jump from $19.99 to $24.99. Finally, a 12-month sub will jump from $49.99 to $59.99.

In the UK, a 1-month sub will move from 5 GPB to 6 GPB.

Canadian gamers will see their 1-month sub price increase from $8.99 CAD to $9.99 CAD.

Additionally, in Mexico the 12-month sub will increase to 599 pesos from 499.

As a way to give back to loyal XBL fans before the price hike, Microsoft has dropped the price of the 12-month subscription in the U.S. to $39.99 until November 1st.

Why? To make up for all the money spent into Windows Phone 7?

Quote:Microsoft has dropped the price of the 12-month subscription in the U.S. to $39.99 until November 1st. So us Canadians still get screwed, then come Nov 1st we get double shafted? What the hell Microsoft. If it wasn't for the exclusive titles, I would be getting a PS3 and playing online for FREE right now. I swear this company is getting more and more like Apple every day, and that's not a compliment. Before you know it, Xbox's are going to cost $600, with low performance, and Gates is going to dress up in a turtleneck.

Well we canadians don't get a discount but we don't get an increase. It's still a rip off tho, I use my PS3 for online gaming not 360; that is until 2 of my PS3 damn well broke. Will I be suckered into buying a 3rd... Prolly.. Cause I dont want to pay for Xbox live

Wow...for what the price of one year will be, you could buy a broken ps3 and heatgun it back to life!

Just like microsoft...charging for something that the competition does for free; and then raising the price.

Next gen 360 will have a credit card slot so when you want to play a game before the drive opens you must swipe your card.

Thank you to the modders that removed the ping limit on the jtag 360 so we can play on Xlink Kai

Who actually paid the full 49.99 price? If you look around amazon and dell usually sell the 12 month gold cards at times for 29.99. But have to agree, would be nice if it was free.

Just when Black Ops is coming out...I have both systems, I'll probably still buy it for my 360. Then again $59.99 is a new game but like llongtheD said I usually buy off Amazon hope for $39.99?!

Not everyone buys from amazon; most people buy through the system itself.

ssoo why don't every just use tunnel software and avoid xbox live, wait everything revolves around xbox live and the cheap gamers today can not keep up. Gaming is a expansive hobby which makes it a multi billion industry.

It takes millions to make these games and run the XBL network but tell me who has a network as large and full of players like xbox live. No other console has one, the closest i could think of would be steam but that is PC based.

If no one has noticed the upgrades to xbox live over the last few months as well as many new games and many more on the rise, would you not be surprised there is a rate rise and guess what another 6 months there will be another one for the next set of upgrades and developers.

it appears that for the UK its only a rise for the month access from £5 to £6 quid, how many ppl purchase their gold a month at a time i wander?

    http://www.reghardware.com/2010/08/31/xbox_live_price_rises/

Quote:Some British Xbox Live Gold users will be paying more for their online gaming pleasure from 1 November onwards.

On that date, the price of one month's Gold access will rise from £5 to £6. Neither the three-month nor the annual price will go up, Microsoft pledged.

Actually, Brits have fared fairly well. US-based users will not only pay more for a month's access - rising from $8 to $10 - but the other packages are going up too: three month's access will jump from $20 to $25, while a year's access will cost $60, up from $50.

Unsurprisingly, Microsoft suggested all subscribers should buy more access pronto, before the price rise.

So what you're saying is that in the US, the 12 month and 1 month subs will get raised but in the UK, only the 1 month sub will get raised?

Sorry, but the fact that MS isn't raising the price of the 12 month sub in the UK just isn't Microsoft-esque if you know what I mean.

I think that this is ridiculous. I don't care how many improvements and recoding they do; they're already making a killing and they shouldn't be raising the prices.

At Fred Meyer where my wife works we get an automatic 10% discount on anything in the electronics department without exception. They also routinely have all gaming accessories 10 to 15% off, sometimes with another coupon too. I think I'll drive down to Portland, Oregon where there is no sales tax and buy like ten years worth. Shove that up your bunghole M$!!!
