'Duke Nukem Forever' finally coming in 2011

'Duke Nukem Forever' finally coming in 2011
In 1997, the game Duke Nukem Forever was announced by George Broussard, one of the developers of the popular franchise.

Thirteen years later, the game has still not been released and "Forever" has become infamous.

Just this year, developer 3D Realms shut down the project, after it had been revived in 2009.

Finally, however, it appears the game will be hitting retail shelves, as the franchise rights have been transferred to Gearbox, the team behind Half-Life and Brothers in Arms.

Duke Nukem Forever will now launch for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PCs in 2011.

Says Broussard: "Gearbox was the only home appropriate for the Duke Nukem brand. This will be a win-win situation for everyone involved, especially the fans."

"Fifteen years ago,Duke Nukem 3D helped launch my professional video game development career,” adds Gearbox president Randy Pitchford. "The Gearbox Software team and I are ecstatic that we have grown to a position to be able to pick up and carry the torch and help Duke rise back to glory in his time of need."

To pick up on this outdated news, as this was out on Friday on every game site; Gearbox officially owns the Duke Nukem franchise, so this will not be the last game and it will not take another 12 years for a follow-up.

Thanks for the news post tho.

Yes but this time it was playable at PAX and is nearly finished. The reason for the 2011 release is for touch-ups, and for Gearbox to get out the expansion for Borderlands.

Therefor it's OLD news. The news regarding them owning the franchise came out Sunday afternoon, which isn't mentioned in this article. :P

Yes it was, and that was the point of the article. I do apologize for it being published today instead of last night but Labor Day weekend plans got in the way.

I sure hope they have been improving the engine over the development cycle; most games that were started in 1997 don't look very good by modern standards. If it is a good engine with decent graphics, I can't wait...but it better have jiggle physics for the strippers.

I think it might have been a little soon for someone to go and modify the Wikipedia entry for 'Vaporware,' don't you?

I saw some trailer vids and teasers on some other sites and i was not that impressed seeing how much games have improved graphically in the years that have gone by the trailer and teaser does not look that good for a new generation console or PC game either. I hope they make vast improvements from now till the release next year.

I hope the humour is not lame.

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.
