iOS devices surpass PSP in gaming
According to the International Gamers Survey 2010, Apple's iOS devices have surpassed the Sony PSP as a gaming platform in the United States, while closing in on the popular Nintendo DS.

The group says about 77 million Americans play games on portable devices and mobile phones, with a whopping 40.1 million using iOS devices such as the iPhone/iTouch or iPad.

That number far surpasses the 18 million figure for Sony PSP gamers, and closing in on the 41 million figure for the very popular Nintendo DS. The survey only includes gamers aged 10 and up.

Almost 70 percent of users play games on their PSP or iPad three days a week while only 50 percent of DS, iPhone and iTouch users do the same.

Additionally, Nintendo DS owners are the most willing to spend money on games, with iPad owners being the least willing.

Rounding out the top 5 platforms are LG at 15.6 million mobile gamers, and finally BlackBerry at 12.8 million gamers.

considering loads are free, and well under priced compared to psp games, whos surprised. but go and compare a proper psp game with an iphone and you will see why the game is worth its price!

there are actual stories,a dn much better game play. plus real controls!. but people are cheap (which is ironic that they buy iDevices)

I don't think I will ever take iOS devices seriously as gaming devices. Angry Birds? Blah.

Let the people crowed over to idevice gaming, real gamers prefer and always will the hard core hand-held/console. If I wanted to play games for simple minded people, I'd play my Wii more often alone. *I play it with my 4yo, but hey he's 4 and loves it* But then that same 4yo will play Dirt 2 and Split Second Velocity over Mario Kart. *shrug*... simple people keep sucking on your idevices..

Comparing iPhone gaming to PSP gaming is like comparing a skateboard to a Military Humvee...they may both be 4-wheeled transportation, but they are sold to very different needs.

    From the press release:
"The majority of the 160 million Americans playing computer games do so on multiple platforms depending on time of day, social setting and mood. This is illustrated by the fact that almost 14 million of Nintendo DS/DSi gamers (34%) also play games on an iPod Touch and vice versa. The data also shows that nearly 90% of people playing games on the iPad has experience playing on an iPhone or iPod Touch."

They are saying something much more than they wish to with this statement...

...And in the end, they only mentioned Android once; an incidental comment just to claim that Android was included...
"Being able to start off playing free games is a key advantage of iOS and Android devices and comparable to successful social gaming and MMO business models ." ...that is the only place android was mentioned in the whole press release.

I use my iDevice for small entertainment when I'm a little bored.

I don't consider my iPod Touch as a proper gaming device. I bought the device for its main purpose - music. With the addition of some games and cool apps.

Yeah I play games on my cell because I happen to be somewhere with nothing better to do. Given the choice I will choose a console over it any day. It's not even a contest...

I doubt many people view their phone as a gaming platform.

    Just my $0.02,

I hate to admit it but I haven't played my PSP since July. Played some games on my ipod touch the other day though.

The casual user is just gonna stick with iOS devices and most of the Hardcore won't be willing to fork out 300 bucks to Sony for a device that they fail to support in the last generation.
