LG 'Star' will feature Android, Tegra 2, 8MP camera
Engadget has posted new pics of the upcoming LG 'Star' smartphone, the new flagship in the company's Android Optimus line.

The device will run at least Android 2.2 out of the gate, and be the first smartphone to run on a powerful Nvidia Tegra 2 processor.

Additionally it will feature an 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, and a front-facing camera.

With a January release date planned, the smartphone will be the first to use a dual-core processor.

Furthermore, the site says it hears the Android will be "vanilla," with no extra interface layers.

Earlier in the day, LG said they sold 1 million Optimus smartphones around the world in just 40 days.

I thought 2.2 and early 2.3 builds had no multicore support?

Sure, it is missing a keyboard and it is on a terrible network and it has no 4G support (WiMax is not 4G) and it has poor battery life and it is ugly...oh wait, it is a bad phone!

TIny mechanical keyboards are no better than video keyboards, sorry. Say what you like about SPrint, sure, but again, WiMax IS 4G. YOU do not set the standards xD .

Yay! Hopefully there will be a slew of dual core phones by April because that's when my contract is up.. I doubt I would buy this since its LG and whenever I think LG, I think crap. I don't know why lol

My last phone was a LG Voyager and it was great too.. Something about the brand is just unappealing to me though.

Yeah he doesn't set the standards but he is right! WiMax is not 4G, and mechanical keyboards are better than using a virtual keyboard in my opinion. If you actually do some research online you will see that WiMax does not meet 4G standards and the technology that they are using for it has been around for a few years.
    Sprint WiMax not true 4G

What is 4G? O2UK don't even have 3G in Co Tyrone N.Ireland but they will sell you a 3G phone in a no 3G zone. When I asked them about it I got passed on to nobody.i'manidiot.com edited by ddp

No, I don't set the standards, ITU-R made the 4G standard...a standard that states, "An IMT-Advanced cellular system must have target peak data rates of up to approximately 100 Mbit/s for high mobility such as mobile access and up to approximately 1 Gbit/s for low mobility such as nomadic/local wireless access"

And? Show me the network ANYONE has that satisfies this speed as a landline, much less mobile connection

Ah, but the entire substance of your gripe is an obvious straw man. NOONE has 4G, not one network, yet many claim they do. Get over it. It's not coming very soon.

I wish these companies would invest in a new battery technology rather than new more powerful devices.....

I love my HTC Desire ! It does everything I want it to do.... If I surf the web for an hour (twitter/facebook) at work in the morning I have to recharge by 16:00 !! and that's not having WiFi or GPS turned on.

How about designing a battery that I can have FULL connectivity on the phone and it last a couple of days without charging.. Now that would be fantastic...

Having a dual-core processor in my phone so I can play great 3d games isn't required... sort the battery life out first !!!

There are aftermarket, significantly larger batteries for most smartphones.
