Acer unveils Android device with massive screen

Acer has unveiled its latest Android device this week, a smartphone with a massive 4.8-inch display and 1024x480 resolution.

The device runs on Android 2.2 Froyo, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and 8MP camera with AF and LED flash and a front-facing 2MP camera, as well.



Acer's unnamed device will also have HSDPA 14.4Mbps support, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, DLNA streaming, 6-axis motion sensing, and an HDMI-out port.

The company says the following of the smartphone:

The new Acer smartphone with the soul of a tablet perfectly combines the capabilities of a smartphone with a tablet-like format: a huge 4.8” widescreen with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a super cool chassis.

Acer will begin shipping the device in April.

  Good for them, acer has once again found out what everyone wants, after everyone else. Nothing here is ground-breaking. They just take what other companies have made, found out what parts they use, and regurgitated this horrible, mish-mash-of-a-protuct onto the masses... brovo.. brovo..

  Good job Acer, I'm glad there is a manufacturer that will come out with a phone and is not scared to say when its cooking out or show pics.

  Honestly now is this really necessary? Where does smart phone end and tablet begin? This is just as bad as that Dell thing.

  Hopefully they get it cheap quickly, it looks like it has a nice spec.
  No word on the memory sizes yet but with HDMI & an obvious HD pic/movie slant it wants to be big.
  
  But if it's just another costly iPhone type thing at those sorts of prices.....well, so what?
  Theres lots of them on the market right now.
  If it's not going to get cheap fast then it's just another ridiculously expensive and rather silly conspiculous consumption badge.

Everything else is a beaut though and I disagree with Evthingresvd (sorry for not quoting).. but just because they've rehashed the best features of other smartphones, why's that any bad? If right, they've innovated on these features and brought them to a centralised product... sounds like a good rival for my HTC Desire and maybe even the Desire HD...

I sure am glad that the people that build things have enough sense to see what has already been built and try to build it even better or we might still be driving Model T's, chopping wood for our stoves and a million other things.

  Lot of Acer h8 there at the beginning that had nothing to do with this phone. If you can combine a better product than the competition at a good price then what's the problem? Nothing wrong with a larger screen on a cell phone if all it does is make the phone use less of the black space around the screen (lots of black border on my Samsung Moment). Even if it's a failure, I hope it'll be like the iPhone and push other mfrs to add more features with respect to the cost conscious.
  
  Was there a legitimate complaint about this phone or just venting?
