Windows Phone 7 hits 3000 apps, 15,000 developers

Microsoft has said this week that there are now 15,000 registered Windows Phone 7 developers, and a total of 3000 apps in the WP7 store.

The number of developers is jumping at an incredible pace, moving from just 8,000 in September, and 13,000 on November 1st.



Marketplace app count has jumped significantly, as well, moving from 1000 last month to the current 3000.

Says Todd Brix, Group Product Planner for the Mobile and Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft (via WR):

"Clearly we’re just getting warmed up. We know that many Windows Phone developers have gone to great lengths to ensure that their apps and games are in Windows Phone Marketplace this holiday season…We’re heading into one of the biggest shopping weeks of the year and we’re on pace to offer roughly 3,000 apps and games by the end of this week."

As a way to promote the apps, Microsoft says Bing Visual search will prominently list WP7 games and apps.

Earlier this week, ChevronWP7 hit the net, giving users a chance to unlock their phone and install homebrew or unsigned apps.

  and about 2 phones sold :p
  JK.... i actually like the idea of the WP7, but the openness of Android and the Google improvements to the platform keep pulling my attention away from wp7... not that i'm on the market for a phone, will only upgrade my EVO when the dual core phones establish the market... Windows kinda resemble Apple this time around... bought myself the HTC HD7 yesterday, as i wanted out of my iphone contract sharpish, must say its one of the best phones and os's iv used. Theres a huge update planned for january. With this being an infant state os but still a very capable one, lets hoping the update makes it even better

  LoL..."It is almost as good as a 2-year-old iPhone"...I think that is the best review Win7Mo has got yet...and I hate the iPhone.
  
  It does have at least one advantage over an apple...they are allowing others to make the phone, so the tech can evolve through competition, and you won't have any situations where every single windows 7 mobile device has the same hardware issue. Oh wait...I forgot their proprietary handling of microSD cards...yeah, they will have that problem anyway!

When Google/Android debuted it didn't have all the staple features but more than iphone. I kept and LOVED my Android for two years. During this period I got a Zune HD, because my third iPod failed me. It was digital perfection in the palm of my hand and hoped it would influence a mobile phone platform. It did. My HD7 and WinMo7 is near FLAWLESS with all the staples I needed, except cut & Paste, but that day is just around the corner. Microsoft has a true winning OS and mandating the right hardware specs to handle it! AWESOME! No need to look further!
