Acer has unveiled the new Aspire AS8950G-9839, a powerful entertainment center laptop, at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Acer claims that the Aspire AS8950 Series delivers an unparalleled high-definition personal theater experience, and it has the specifications to back up such a claim. Powered by the Intel i7-2630QM processor with next generation ATI graphics, it also features a Blu-ray drive and new Dolby audio technology.

"The new Acer Aspire AS8950G is the ultimate portable entertainment center," said Preeta Anil, Acer product marketing. It sounds like a sweet deal. I have a Sager and it was going to cost $1000 more to replace. This might be my new gaming machine.

How can today's entertainment laptop not have 3D capability?
Bluray on a laptop? That's so CES 2008.

BTW, wonder what kind of battery you need to drive i7, 8GB memory and a BRplayer? Probably lasts less than a movie.

    Pass.

Ye the press information strangely didn't include information on the battery, also it doesn't mention what OS which is weird but I think it's a 99% chance that its Win 7 so not really a big deal.

As for lacking 3D, that really isn't much of a miss for me. I don't get the 3D hype at all.

It does say the OS is windows 7. It's not about how interested you are in the 3D, but a top of the line media laptop being showcased should have something new. This laptop just has superior specs, nothing new and interesting.
