CES 2011: Dell intros XPS 17 laptop with HD, 3D
Dell is showing off its new XPS 17 laptop touting impressive HD and 3D capabilities, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The new XPS brand edition features a 17-inch high-definition 3D display, which requires NVIDIA NVision 3D glasses (sadly, sold separately) for the 3D effect.

The new 3D capable XPS 17 joins Dell's recently introduced line of XPS laptops featuring booming JBL sound, an integrated subwoofer and crystal clear high-definition screens and, of course, HD video streaming with Skype for the ultimate in HD camming.

The laptop is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor and comes equipped with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics card.

In addition to its 3D screen, the XPS 17 also features NVIDIA 3DTV Play software allowing users to connect their XPS laptop to a compatible 3D HDTV, for playback of Blu-ray 3D titles or popular PC games available in stereoscopic 3D.

Dell XPS 17 laptop models start at $1,449 and will go on sale starting February 1, 2011.

all these new note/net book i've been seeing with new and better graphic/cpu/ssd/aluminum casing etc etc is great, but one thing is not improved, and thats touch/track pad. why o why not just add touch screen to a net/note book? everytime i use my note book i always plug in a usb mouse, its so easy to scroll and pick with it. i so hate track/touch pad..grrr
maybe the tablet is so succesful because its touch screen, easy to surf the net than a netbook?

I am so edited by ddp excited about the new xps 17 l1702x laptop!!! I am definitely going to buy this edited by ddp on feb 1.... I was originally going to buy the vaio f, but I have always wanted the xps 17. However, now that the xps 17 has the 1080p screen, the decision is a rather simple one. Now, I am very excited, and I will look forward to purchasing this unit!!!!!

I'm not too crazy about 3D, but I wouldn't mind having it on my laptop for games/very few movies. I like the design of the XPS, it's still a little thick, so it's better to wait till Ivy Bridge comes out. By then, Desktop replacement/Gaming laptops should be a lot thinner, more efficient and offer better performance. Samsung's DDR4 Ram should be available by then, and hopefully for once we can get a large capacity SSD AND a fair price. And maybe they'll include the 3D glasses in the next one, without it jacking up the price. But with all these companies trying to "improve" 3D (no glasses, less eye strain), I'll be waiting till Q4-2011/Q1-2012. One of the main things I like about Dell is that they're one of the few that let you customize AND ship to Canada. Only wish that they would bring back blu-ray burners, and offer better GPU's.

I think that you are way too edited by ddp picky about this unit. Have you even been alive for the past three edited by ddp months?!?!? This thing hasn't even had the 1080p option whatsoever and only briefly for the xps 15. Can you please define "still a little thick?" WTF did you expect it to be? A edited by ddp macbook air you edited by ddp. It is impossible for a high performance unit to be a macbook air you edited by ddp.

So, in other words, you are a edited by ddp that can't afford this laptop. If you don't have any edited by ddp money then don't even bother to "comment" on it, in the first place. You are simply wasting the time of anyone that does truly care. Also, the "large capacity ssd" scenario will not realistically happen for at least 3-5 years. So, perhaps you can go buy some shitty 200$ netbook from ebay. Oh wait, you don't even have 200$. Sorry.

You aren't even a edited by ddp american? Get the edited by ddp off the forum you edited by ddp
