Verizon iPhone to have unlimited data option

Verizon iPhone to have unlimited data option
Although unconfirmed by both companies, Apple is expected to unveil a CDMA version of the iPhone on Tuesday, to be available on Verizon in the U.S.

Verizon is the largest carrier in the nation, ahead of rival AT&T, the current exclusive carrier of the Apple smartphone.

All reports claim that the device will be introduced this week, but go on sale in early February.

If accurate, a new WSJ report says Verizon will offer all iPhone purchasers an unlimited data plan option, which AT&T has removed for new owners.

Unlimited plans will sell for $30 a month, while AT&T offers, at most, 2GB per month for $25.

It's not really a surprise since Verizon has kept the $30/month "unlimited" data plan in tact for a while now, even after launching a cheap 150MB/month plan.

What is surprising is that Verizon hasn't dumped the unlimited plan yet given numerous comments they've made about moving to tiered plans, as there are with the LTE devices (5GB or 10GB).

If Verizon were smart they would move toward an idea like Sprint is using. Have lower minutes and unlimited data and unlimited mobile to mobile at a price that is attractive. I would be interested in that. Right now I have Sprint and only have 450 anytime minutes, but I use closer to 500 mobile to mobile minutes with no added costs. Plus with the data plan I never have to worry, but I like the iphone, but hated AT&T when I had them 4 years ago.

You can forget about Verizon using a pricing plan similar to Sprint. Verizon's main competition is AT&T so they're keeping their prices high to compete with them rather than lowering them to Sprint's level.

But if they don't watch it, Verizon will have the exact same damn problem as AT&T, it WILL bog down their network, and I see that happening. As much as I hate tiered pricing, it would be in Verizon's favor.
