AT&T begins offering free unlimited mobile-to-mobile
AT&T has said today that they are now offering free unlimited mobile-to-mobile in the U.S. to all customers who have a qualifying voice plan and unlimited text messaging.

Starting tomorrow, you can activate the "Mobile to Any Mobile" addition from www.att.com/anymobile.

Says the carrier:

Mobile to Any Mobile is an exciting offer that will keep our customers connected to the people they want to talk to, when they want to talk to them, without the hassle of watching minutes. We're giving customers more options and even better value. And when you include Rollover Minutes, a benefit available exclusively from AT&T that lets customers keep their unused minutes for all domestic calls, including to landline numbers, it's clear that AT&T offers the most flexibility in the industry.

Unlimited text messaging plans cost $20 per month for individual lines or $30 for the full family on family plans.

So $40 for the minimum minutes, $20 for unlimited text, and $25 for 2GB of data.

That's actually a not a bad deal from AT&T. I'm surprised. They must be really trying hard to prevent Verizon from taking their iPhone customers.

Now there is competition at work for the consumers.

Hmmm..it may be worthwhile for me to think about canceling my land line. I only got it because my wife tends to talk for hours on the phone but most people she talks to only have cell phones.

I could knock my phone plan down to minumum minutes and just pay an extra $10 for the unlimited text and prolly save like $30 a month. I may have to look into that.

AT&T is not the first to do this...this may be a good deal by AT&T standards, but it still isn't a good deal.

I still find $20 for unlimited txt to be a rip off. I use Sprint, while not the greatest, in some respects, they actually give you some value.

I'm glad there is some good coming out of Verizon's iPhone. I would still never get it as it lacks data and voice simultaneously. Many will not know about this and many will certainly not care anyway.

I'm happy with AT&T overall but the lack of unlimited plans by the time I signed up was pretty lame. I hate having to be cautious over my usage.

AT&T should realise by now that if they have one of the largest customer bases, this doesn't mean prices increase!

who talks nowadays on their cellphones... Oh yea the VZ iphone users!

Having unlimited and not been able to use it is not such a great deal, but is a start. Bring on the competition...
