HP to sell its PC division to Samsung?
The Chinese Commercial Times paper has reported on a pretty crazy rumor this week, stating that PC giant HP may be looking to sell its entire PC division to Samsung.

Lenovo and Foxconn were also contacted, but apparently do not have the same financial resources to effectively steal the bid away from Samsung.

The deal was close to being sealed in late 2010, but the paper says it was "called off for unknown reasons."

So far, there has been little follow-up on the potentially blockbuster deal.

While the deal would be great for Samsung who is looking to fill its notebook product line gap, the paper speculates that chances of HP selling are very low, as the division still brings in sizable profits and revenue.

HP is the top global laptop vendor and was the top desktop PC seller in the Q4 2010.

It goes to show you how bad HP's organization is, if they were smart they would sell because I don't see them changing course. Their consumer division is going down fast as their products and support are horrible at best. People are starting to realize this and their sales have been sliding downward. I won't by an HP product for a long time as I've been burnt too many times now on printers and PC's/Notebooks.

Lenovo wouldn't help HP's product line so it's good they can't afford to buy them out and I wonder if Foxconn could do anything either but would be the better of the two.

HP is on my enemies list also as far as their PC's go. I remember when one I had had its HD fried ONE day AFTER the warranty was up. They said they would still fix it BUT they wanted me to send my entire PC to Radio Shack just to replace a HD! The IBM I had had a similar HD problem and they did it the right way. They sent me a replacement HD and all I had to do was send in the old HD after I took it out. That's how you do it. :)

HP wouldn't replace it but wanted to sell me a new one for $599 (160GB) so of course I procured one myself for $89 (250GB). They also tried to tell me I should buy from them so that I got a compatible and better drive, like my first drive was so good. At that same time my Wi-Fi card stopped working, the card its self was good but the interface on the MB was bad and this was one of their top notch Special Edition notebooks. That is only one of too many examples I won't go into the OS and their software issues because it just gets to be too long.

I agree with Mr-Movies. HP has sucked ever since their merger with Compaq, perhaps before then. Not only for their service but their quality has gone down the tubes as well. I could give many specific examples of horror stories but don't feel like writing a book right now.

They have had a decline in sales over the last year or so, but are still making a profit. I personally don't care if you can't see the relevance of my post, the fault is yours of course. As to rant, there was no rant but one might think that is your intention or are you just trolling?

Do what you want but you definitely don't comprehend obviously.

At any rate this will be my last waste of breath with you, as you are definitely fishing for a fight and not worth the bother. Grow up!

You are correct i had trouble comprehending what you meant in your starter post in regards to sliding sales as article stated they were the top sellers turns out they're dropping like a stone if web searching is an indication..lol..,as for hp employee of the month..lmao..yeah i have an hp from 04 at the time i thought it was a great comp,7 years on i'd never buy another stink'n prebuilt ever again if for no other reason it'd be on principle of the bloody junk software that gets installed however it would be due to hardware & what i require now

They didn't even have to fix it. Most companies would not have fixed it.

hdd on it's own would have a longer warranty usually 3 years some get up to 5 if i'm not mistaken chances are that's why they were willing to replace it,still lets face it regardless of what hardware failed where a year isn't exactly a long time unless it's on 24/7,any comp manufacturer selling to general user should give a minimum 3 years that to me would show they have confidence in their product

So that is why you see only a 1 year warranty on the hard drive in your notebooks these days. I don't know exactly how much HP pays for their HDD's but the OS only costs them around $30 a machine or cheaper depending on volume of the company.

That totally sux then another reason not to buy a prebuilt..lol..that OS at 30 bucks is freaky,i came across a website a few months back who had a stack of software for download, stuff like nero, cyberlink & a bunch of others for next to nothing i thought it was a scam, christ! even photoshop was dirt cheap, perhaps it wasn't too good to be true after all & yeah i think there was mention of it being OEM & not retail,i just couldn't believe the difference in price it was a huge gap between them & what they sold for on the makers website.

Ive had hp devices for 10 years with little to no issues so I must be the odd ball out. Every custom machine that I have had has gone through major issues. With that being said, I would rather a custom machine just because I design circuits so it intrigues me more than just buying from the shelf.

I have an hp for entertainment bad a custom deal for when I do video and graphic editing as well as cad.

I always built my own comps, then a few years back I purchased 2 HP comps. Big msitake. Both comps failed almost immediately and repeatedly. The HP customer service personnel were nice but not very knowledgeable. Most of the time the conversation ended up in "OK send it in for repair". HP's weakest link was their choice of shipping company: UPS. Finally, even before the warranty expired, I started replacing components on my own to reduce downtime. I replaced 90% of the hardware. Then I realized I could be spending my time and money building new comps instead of repairing ill-designed machines. My latest build was accomplished with zero problems and has been 100% reliable for 8 months now. HP lost my business because of their incompetence; sony never got my business because they are evil.
