Report: Apple shipped 2.5 million iPads in March

According to Digi, Apple shipped about 2.5 million iPad 2 in March, and that number is expected to double in the next quarter.

Says the source:

Sales of iPad 2 are running at a rate faster than its predecessor, and Apple took delivery of 2.4-2.6 million units in March. Apple is likely to take delivery of 4-4.3 million units a month, or a total of over 12 million units, of iPad 2 tablets in the second quarter.

The original iPad took 9 months to sell 15 million units meaning Apple expects its sequel to far outsell.

By comparison, the Motorola Xoom, with Android 3.0 Honeycomb, is rumored to have only sold 140,000 units.

Despite the devastating earthquake in Japan, the source says Japanese and other Asian touch panel makers are expanding their production to keep up with iPad demand.

  140K xoom sold? Thats just sad!
  I guess most of these people that got a xoom is to review it in some sort of website... I really want a Android tablet but the price is not right. The android tablet is on its babe steps and want to walk like a giant. i love the hardware of Xoom and im an Android fanboy but ask me to choose if i could buy only one with same money i would get the apple product.

I am waiting for the Samsung android Tablet that will be release around June. The 10.1 size screen. Google the specs on it. Xoom was my first choice till I read about all its issues and he fact it is not as stream line as the iPad2. Samsung soon to release tablet is actually going to be thinner than the iPad2, have about the same battery life and allows you the ability to expand its memory with micro SD cards.
