'Anonymous' to boycott Sony stores next week

'Anonymous' to boycott Sony stores next week
The hacking group 'Anonymous,' which recently stopped its attack on PSN and other Sony services, has said this week that it will stage a 24-hour boycott at Sony stores around the world next week, Saturday, April 16th.

On the Facebook page, there are over 1000 RSVPs for the event.

Over the last week, Anonymous used DDoS attacks to take down the PSN and a few individual Sony employees. The attack was stopped after the group decided it was hurting the Sony consumers they were trying to avenge.

You can read Anonymous's full letter to concerned PSN users here: 'Anonymous' stops its assault on PSN

The group is pissed at Sony for its lawsuit against Geohot and its criminalization of users who even click on info related to PS3 custom firmware and homebrew. Geohot opened up the console to homebrew by running 'jailbreak code' and creating a custom firmware for version 3.55.

24 hours? Fail.... Try a month of every single member stopping the use of all sony products and services as well as no longer purchasing them. That might do something but 24 hours won't do a damn thing.

I refuse to buy Sony stuff and have done for several years now out of principle, but what difference do these script kiddies think a 24 hour boycott is going to make. They probably never leave their mum's basement anyway, so what is the difference?

This will be just as effective as boycotting all the gas stations for 24 hours. If you want to be effective how about you commit to a lifelong boycott of Sony products. Wow, over 1000 RSVP's. Sony will definitely go out of business now! I'm sure they are loving the publicity all of this is getting. I understand why anonymous is doing this and basically agree with why they are pissed. Anonymous so far all of your ideas have failed. Better go back and come up with something better.

Their last idea actually worked...people were avoiding buying new PS3s because they knew that the network was useless and might be that way for a very long time, and existing users were not able to use the PSN store. If they had kept it up, Sony would have had no choice but to concede to some of the lesser requests.

Just the things I read in the forums...I doubt we will see any hard numbers, and it had only just begun when they backed down anyway.
